Well first post signing papers today but need jeep experts advise
Hey guys I am signing papers for a 08 sahara unlimited tonight and have a few questions about carfax. Jeep looks good and ran good but on the service records the dealer replaced steering damper, brake calipers and transmission cooler lines. Since I dont know about any of this I figured you guys could tell me if those are red flag items. The manager who was extremely nice and had a awesome gecko jeep and said he had 14 jeeps in his lifetime (4 Jks) showed me different areas in engine bay that he said would have had some type of residue from off roading if it was. He seemed to know his stuff and and was showing me the difference between that one and his in which he off roads in. Also got a engine and powertrain extended warranty trying to decide if I should switch to bumper to bumper. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Not sure why it would need new calipers, that's a odd one. The Transmission line replacement was a TB fix. Some had leaks. The Steering damper could be a red flag though but not necessarily. I would try and ask more questions on that one.

Steering dampeners aren't great from the factory so they wear out. They aren't that important tho on a stock jk. Some people just reuse them. calipers wear out too. Especially being 5 years old, the rubber on the dust boot is definitely hard and possibly cracking. Once they let dirt thru its not very long till they need to be rebuilt or replaced. I've done 2 of them on my 08 jk (40k miles). Off roading will lead to calipers breaking sooner but they can go for many reasons
Overall none of those seem like anything to worry about. Sounds like you got a good jeep. Congrats and happy Jeeping!

Are you getting a warranty?
And..... a car-fax will only report what has been reported.

transmission cooler lines are pretty typical, 3 different people I know with 07 or 08 jk's have had to replace them including myself.

Also, you can't tell if a wrangler is off-roaded because dealers are INSANELY TALENTED at cleaning the engine bays and under carriages. It blows my mind how good they are at it. So don't use that as an indicator of off roading.

Thanks for the input I feel a lot better knowing these are fairly common issues. The salesman met me at my job to sign papers but will take another good look before I pick her up sat. I did get warranty so that will cover things too. It has 57k miles so I figured was about right for a 08. Unfortunately not able to get brand new this time around but if I love the jeep like I think I will in a few yrs will be able to make that move
