Side window shattered

I was driving down a paved road doing 100 km/h and heard a loud bang. I looked over my shoulder and this is what I see.

I keep going a few till it's safe to pull over and by then it's falling out.

Attachment 234947

Next sharp left corner, this is what I'm left with.

Any ideas what could cause this and is it easy to replace, or should I take it to a glass shop?

That sucks. You talk of speed in kmh and there is snow on the ground, you must be in Canada. I haven't saw that much snow in several years combined.

It's mostly all gone, but more in the forecast this weekend. Been a long winter.

I would certainly take it to a glass shop (auto apple glass) and see if its even worth using your insurance to fix (if you have that type of coverage) or just pay out of the pocket. Are you in Alberta?

Vibrations maybe? It's a pretty big pane of glass. I would imagine it was a perfect storm situation. Temp, vibration from speed, maybe air pressure...

WaterDR 04-11-2013 08:06 PM

Same thing happened to me on a ford Escape simply starting the car up. Rear window exploded.

I was thinking some kind of combination of something with pressure if it was an 03-06 top on a 97-02 jeep

'98 jeep....don't know the hard top year. It came with the Jeep. How would I tell?

I am in Alberta.

Vibrations? I just put in a new lift and tires. Hope they didn't cause it cause I like them.

The lock box is made by Tuffy. Have one on each side. Came with the Jeep.

I have a solution till fall, but need to change the glass.

It's an older top because of the vents in the back it probably came factory since your in Canada. I'd call it a freak accident and see if they make
plexi glass replacements.
