Tire size?

Hey guys need some info. I have a 2000 TJ with 4banger, 5 speed, and 4.88 gears. It has 4in of lift. It has 33x12.5x15 on it now. The guy that had the jeep said he tried 35's but to much for engine. I am looking at pro comp xt and was thinking about 35's or should I stay with 33's. The jeep will be a D.D for about 6 more months.

well how is it now with the 33's?? i've heard people struggle with a 4 banger and 33's so i dont know about 35's but if your fine now then maybe 35's wouldn't be to bad

I would hold off on the 35's until you aren't using it for your daily driver. It will affect your mpg, going bigger. If throwing your money out the exhaust is no issue, then by all means, get them.

What kind of axles do you have? I've read and been told that if you are going to run 35's then you should have a d44 or a ford 8.8 as the d35 won't hold up.

33's are about the limit for a daily driven Jeep with the 2.5l. If you go bigger than that, you will lose 5th gear on the highway... Not good for the mpg... The other thing to look at is the axles, expecially the rear. I have seen guys drive their Jeeps with the brand new 35's through a mud puddle and break an axle shaft in a Dana 35. Even 33's usually bend axle shafts in the 35. I would stick with 33's and upgrade the rear axle before you install 35" tires on your Jeep.
