Nice find. I wonder why the results of their CAI testing didn't surprise me in the least? :p

I preach this to my circle of friends and they always look at me like I just took a dump on their hood.

That was posted here, or on JF a while back. I'm waiting for people to start mounting their air filters to the front bumper..:)

OhSixTJ 04-12-2013 07:47 PM

Oh well this is simple to explain. The reason that didn't make any gains is because the filter wasn't K&N! Duh!! :p

I actually hold mine with my left arm out of the window. This has a cold air/snorkel effect. The best of both worlds!

I've been wanting a chrome tube bumper anyhow, so I'll zip tie my air filter to it.

I work at a VW dealer & I cant count how many people take the factory airbox out that gets its air intake from out of the engine bay & put in a "hot air intake" that now is sitting in the hot engine bay sucking its air.Um,hello??

You are 100% correct!! I put the K&N on.....BAM!....Instant HP and torque gains. Those things work Wonders :)

Great clip thanks for sharing. We have always heard COIs and K&N type filters were useless for most applications. Hopefully some people will save their $$$ and buy more Big Macs instead.

Yeah right, you guys and your "science", lol. What's next? Stickers don't REALLY add horsepower?

How DARE you guys say it's useless! My CAI gives me +0.123456 mph!!

mrpotatohead 04-13-2013 10:55 AM

I bought my S2K with a CAI already on it. The most useful gain I got out of that CAI is I literally could not drive it in the rain... So the car stayed clean.

ratchettt 04-13-2013 11:17 AM

Very informative. Thanks

TheWolfen 04-13-2013 02:43 PM

Yes, very informative! I've been curious if the CAI was all myth or reality and this makes a strong case for myth. I do wonder about one thing, though... their test setup. It was using a car that basically already had one from the factory, so the results didn't surprise me at all. I'd love to see the same test on a factory wrangler vs a snorkel. That would make it a lot more compelling for us here. Then we'd see a setup with no performance tuning as a baseline, unlike the factory setup of the car used.

Note that I have no opinion either way. I don't have one now and would simply like to know if there is anything I can do to get a bit more power from my 3.8 jkur. :)
