I have a 97 tj 2.5 it has a throttle body space and it supposedly has a high voltage ignition system. What i need to kno is whats the stock rpm's at idle? And when mines at idles it about 800 rpm's but it has a sputter where it with periodically drop to 650-700 is that the right idle rpm's for a 2.5 and is that sputter normal. Also when im driving if i pop it into neutral as i come up to a light it will sometimes drop down to 400-500 rpm's then bounce back up it also does it if im at a complete stop and i turn the wheels back and forth. Is that normal or do i have a problem?

Clean your throttle body sensor (tps) or your idle air control valve (iac) and see if that doesn't fix it.

Mine idles around 800 (99 2.5)
Try cleaning the tb as mentioned and check for vaccum leaks

Are you popping an auto into neutral?

If these do not work check your distributor cap. I had a similar situation and it was distributor. Try cap first, a good one is about $20.

Cleaning your IAC (idle air controller) might help. The IAC is what provides all of the engine's air at idle so if the IAC is dirty enough to hang up, it can cause idle problems. If that doesn't help, you might have a bad TPS (throttle position sensor) or perhaps even your plugs need replacing. The TJ's OE ignition system was already exceptionally good as the factory built it and performance won't be enhanced with an aftermarket ignition system. Older Jeep ignition systems could benefit by a good aftermarket ignition system but not the TJ's.
And if you ever remove your throttle body, you can leave that spacer off since it doesn't do anything to help performance with the type of throttle body our TJs use.

Its a standard and i cleaned the throttle body and its parts a couple months ago the inside was really black but today i went mudding and when i got back to town i let the jeep cool and when i got back in it had a rough idle and the check engine light was flashing but once it warmed up the light went solid and it seemed to run normal. Any suggestions?

Have you checked the inside of your distributor cap for moisture/mud? Or old ignition wiring that is cracked & allowing the spark out to short to ground?

Ill check that and im letting it cool down again to see if it does the same thing
