Turn signal not working?
 
Hi all. I have a 2000 TJ, and the passenger side front signal just will not work. I have replaced both the front, and the fender turn signal. Both the fender signal and rear signal flash very fast, but the front one does not flash at all. Any ideas on how I can fix this? I have already tried replacing all the bulbs.

Sounds like a multi function switch or relay problem to me. My signals, hazards, and brake lights stopped working so I tried a new relay. That worked for a few weeks but eventually it stopped again. I replaced the multifunction switch and I haven't had any issues with it since.

What is a multifunction switch? Don't even know what a relay is lol. Where would I find this? Easy fix or something that would require a professional? Appreciate all the help!

Does the light stay solid on the dash, and are there any dash lights stuck on? I'm having the turn signal issue as well, and it's a short to voltage to my 4wd light, I'm just living with it because I don't feel like pulling the dash and fixing the wiring. If you're familiar with using a DMM you can test the resistance in your wires/check for voltage drops to narrow down where the problem is.

The light flashes fast on the dash indicator. When the head lights are turned on, the indicator shows that the turn signal is on, even when it is not.

The multifunction switch is the switch on the steering column with all of controls for your blinkers etc. It's pretty easy to replace.

Relays are electronically operated switches located in your fuse box (the big boxy looking ones). They're extremely easy to replace.

Alright, this is pretty much the same problem that I'm having right now. One of my wires going into the front turn signal light and the side marker lamp was open causing too much current flow. I'm willing to bet that somewhere in the wiring harness you have a wire shorted somewhere.

Edit: Do me a favor and remove the side marker bulb, simply twist the plastic connector out of the housing and remove the bulb, it shouldn't require any tools. If you turn your lights on the blinker should no longer be solid, but it should still be blinking rapidly.

Also, check your fuses. There is a good chance one of them blew. I can't remember if the signal fuse is behind the glove box or under the hood.

It should be behind the glove box.

I just checked the wiring diagram and the turn signals are on Fuse 1 with the park lamps (at least for 2005, but it should be the same).

I had a similar issue with my TJ and it turned out to be a short in the front fender marker light socket (the one on the outside of the fender not in front). I cut the socket out and terminated the wires and the problem went away. OK, the side marker light no longer works but as soon as I find a new socket that will be fixed.

BTW does anybody know where I can get that socket? I tried every parts chain store with no luck. Is it a dealer item or what?

The fast flashing indicates an open circuit (same as a bunred out bulb). First thing I would check are your connections in the front (if that is the end not working). I would check the grounds first. You could actually put a jumper lead to the lamp holder base and a known good ground to check it.

Great info boys, Im having a problem with my drivers side blinker staying on when I engage teh signal, but the passenger works fine. I just got this jeep used and it was in good running condition but the detailed areas (like wiring) were a mess. The drivers side blinker dash light also comes on when I turn the headlights on. . . . Hmmmm

Found the problem. Turns out that one of the "prongs" where the bulb goes into the socket had snapped in half. Quick replacement of that and I should be good to go.

I had the same problem. It would blink, then blink fast, then stay lit up green on dash while driving straight. It turned out it was the socket that the bulb goes into. I went to the local dealership and picked up the part (grey disk about 1-2 inches) unpluged the wires, took out the bulb and replaced it with the new on. Basically it was a plug and play fix. Took about 2 min. Been fine for over 2 years now. I would try that.

Yes. It's from the dealer. Thats where I got mine
