So I needed to add a screw to hold on the lens of the rear left tail light because one wan't there when I bought it from PO.
I got my dad to come out and check that all my lights are working correctly but my reverse light isn't. So my normal light is when I have the lights on, my indicator is, and my brake light but not my light when I put it in reverse.
I changed the bulb to a fresh one and still no luck
Anybody with any ideas???

Since there was a screw missing from the cover you probably got moisture in the housing which caused some reust or corrosion. Take the cover off and make sure that everything there is good to go (no rust, corrosion, etc)

Yeah I have done that....It looks okay. Like all of the other lights are working on that side fine. I just hate anything electrical. It seems to be a really fickle area amongst cars with a multitude of areas where the 'problem' could be

To be honest I couldn't care less if the light is working it's just that I have to get a roadworthy in the state I live in in Aus in about a month and problems like this will cause it to fail...so looking to solve the problem before that comes around

I'm with Big Sarge. The rust worms got you. I'd get in there real close and make sure non of the contacts are broken off, scuff them up with sandpaper or the like, and bend them in such a way as to make sure there's good metal/metal contact. If you've got a multi-meter, now would be the time to use it.
Worst case, (IIRC) you can get a whole assembly for under $20.

When you say whole assembly??? Like the complete rear tail light or all the wiring??
haha yeah Jeep parts are a bit more expensive in Aus but maybe not quite that disproportionate.

There's a picture to kinda show you wire harness. I just had to change one of mine a couple weeks ago for the same reason. (Crack...water...rusted...inop)

Take a test light or a a multimeter set to DC voltage and stick it in the light bulb socket and make sure you're getting power to it on one of the contacts. Start with that then you know if you need to start tracing the wire or just check the way the bulb is sitting in there/making contact.

cool. Thanks guys. All really helpful. It's about 11 oclock at night where I love so I will check it out tomorrow. I don't have a multimeter so I will go over to a buddy's who I think should be able to help me out with that.
Am I right in making the presumption that I can rule out fuses, computer issues etc because the other light is coming on. Like am I right in making the presumption that the problem should be pretty localised to the contacts or something similar close to the light??

Hmmm those lights are different to mine Big Sarge. Mine have 3 bulbs with in the light enclosure. Despite that I know all of the principles still apply and I will get onto trying out those fixes you have suggested

For anybody who cares I got the problem sorted.
SO I took it to the auto electrician....he told me there was an issue with the earth so he rewired it so the chassis and all works perfectly .....saved me the hassle.
Hope this helps anybody else who stumbles across this thread

it was because the body was rubber mounted or something similar so that's why the tail light was going crazy
