Hitch cargo carrier

Has anyone used the hitch mounted cargo rack from harbor freight? I'm getting ready to move and drive my Jeep across country again and just wanted some extra cargo room for tools/cans as my clothes take up most of the backseat. I'm just not sure if the hitch carrier is long enough to clear my spare.

(Side note i DID use the search function but found nothing similar to mine. I just need a cheap rack for a 1-2 time use.)

I bought a Smittybilt (should be the same) and it clears the spare. (barely) I will probably add in a small hitch spacer for any thing tall.

I probably need one anyway for my bike carrier that is hitch mounted.

I just looked at the Smittybilt one. It's a little wider but the overall dimensions appear to be the same. They're priced the same too. I guess I've got options!

I have the HF version and it works great. I have put jerry cans, a cooler, and firewood on mine with no problems.

I have a URIAH brand and its about as wide as the Jeep. Works great and I think it was about $80 at farm supply store.

A ratchet strap over the spare would help negate any wobble from adding an extender.

I just moved from Kansas to Colorado using the HF cargo carrier to move my dresser. Besides some damage to the dresser due to me not paying attention to how I loaded it I had no issues. I used some bungee cords to attach the carrier to the spare tire for some peace of mind. Even with the high winds during my drive I had no issues!

I have the HF aluminum one and no problems at all. I even attached 4 PVC rod holders for surf fishing. Works as it was meant to.

I am currently shopping for one of these but most are only 20" wide and won't hold a standard 21" push mower I did find one on Amazon made by a company named ultra fab

Yes I have bought and used the exact same Harbor Freight one and I hauled a front and a rear TJ axle that I bought. They weighed more than the max weight, but it worked great. I bet I put at least 300 pounds on it if not more.

I scored a used one from a guy my dad works with for next to nothing. Also found a lockable hard plastic case for $30 at a local farm store which leaves just enough space for my 20MM ammo can.

Scratch that. He refused to take payment for it. Overall cost: freeninetyfree.

I bought mine on Ebay for $150 shipped. Since it is a big box I thought that was very fair. I bought mine to transport my snow blower. The carrier is big and has a nice folding ramp.

Oh and it just barely folds up with the spare tire installed but it does which is a great feature.

I have the aluminum cargo carrier from HF and it works very well. I packed tons of stuff on it, used spider web bungee strap and climbed mount Washington. I have a 31" spare and clearance is not an issue. Good luck

Nice deer and bear!

I have a buddy I wheel with that uses the atv carrier from harbor freight. It works great and is at enough of an angle that it dosen't drag going up hills. Needless to say he carries the ice chest!

It may be a given but either pack the carrier so your tail lights are visible or wire another set to the outside of the carrier.

I like that ramp... That could come in handy
