Leaking fuel

Evening fellas,

I have a 91 yj 6cyl auto with a 20 gallon fuel tank. Everytime I go to fill er up, it leaks just a little bit of gas to cause a puddle the size of a basketball. I'm wondering if y'all have any idea what this is, I doubt it is the fuel tank, but my knowledge of fuel lines and how they work is minimal at best, so any input/comment would be much appreciated. Also, I have noticed a significant drop in my gas mileage lately, I used to be able to go about 220 miles on a tank and now a days she is sputtering out on me at about 190. Wondering if these issues could be connected at all

Where is the leak coming from??? This is critical info if you really want help. Without that its a shot in the dark. Filler hose, vent lines, fuel lines, the tank itself.....

This happened on mine. In my case there is a filler hose and a vent hose between the gas filler cap and the gas tank. It had rotted out over time. The hard part was finding the part, I ended up finding it on JC Whitney. The repair took twenty minutes.

My '91 with 20 gal tank had a leak at one point also. If I remember right there was a recall on it to replace the seal (at the top of the tank) for the fuel pump assembly mount. Check with the dealer to see if the recall service was done. Might be able to get it fixed for free.

Mine actually had a crak in the tank at a seam.
