Best Jack/Jack Stands for Jeeps?
Hey guys, I'm in the market for a good jack and set of jack stands for my 97 TJ. Was wondering what brands/models you guys recommend that have served you well over the years, and the ones to stay clear of?

This is the wrong place to post this... but just any regular 2 ton jack stand, they're all really the same when it comes down to it. A tall 2 ton floor jack works also.

Thanks. Figured since it's for working on the thing, this would be the right place

Mods, please move wherever you feel fit

This is a great place to post this, don't worry.

Likely need a 2.5 or 3 ton jack to get any amount of height. I got mine at seers for $80ish? Also have 2.5 ton jack stands that work great, $25. A lot of guys go with 6 ton stands off harbor freight to get that additional height which can be nice when you're working under the rig. Also if you're just changing tires the stock bottle jack is good for up to 37s

just saw it was moved from builders corner, my bad

Thanks...I'm probably going to go with at least a 3 ton as my Grand Cherokee is 5700 pounds, so I can use it for both vehicles

I don't know what kind of Jeeps you guys are working on but my 3 tons are only good enough for my axles. I need 6 tons to reach the frame.

I have the 6 tins from harbor freight for the height. They are great to place on the rock rails so that you can have full movement of your axles when needed for control arms, coils, ect.

Here's mine being used on another members jku for a 3.5" lift.
They cost $45 retail at HF

I've got a set of four 3 ton stands that I use when I work on regular cars and under the axles of Jeeps with stock size tires. Got them at the local parts store. They've been fine for almost 2 decades.

I bought a set of four 6 ton stands at the local parts store to work on mildly lifted Jeeps and to support the frame when working on even stock Jeeps. They too have worked flawlessly for almost 2 decades.

Now that my CJ is spring over and going to be running 40's I wanted to run jack stands that could support the frame so I went to harbor freight and got a pair of their 12 ton stands. If you can't hold up your frame with those, I bet you have way more lift than makes any reasonable sense.

I bought a couple pairs of 6 ton stands from JEGS...they had a sale, 31 bucks a pair...nice quality

Looking for a good floor jack, but all see to max out around 19"...I want to crawl under there and replace the exhaust, is 19" enough clearance to really work under there?

Neral22 06-22-2013 08:41 PM

I bought the Torin 6 tons, goes up to 21 or 23" (i cant recall now). Northern tools. They have double locks... Nothing worse than being under your car when a lock gives :/

Brig 06-22-2013 08:54 PM

I take it you use the bottle jack? Largest floor jack I see is a 4 ton at Northern Tools and Torin itself

kbwwolf 06-23-2013 02:43 PM

Northern Tool has some of the highest I've seen, at 28" for 6-ton jacks...yeah, I like the overkill, since I'm gonna be the one under the Jeep.

Jack stands for a pretty high Jeep?

As far as jacks themselves, you want one that's gonna last, and will lift your Jeep to a decent height. This is an area where I, personally, don't wanna go cheap. I spent the $$ for a Hein-Warner, and haven't regretted it.

Norco, OTC are all good, as well.

Go here to see prices and particulars for pretty much any lift equipment you'll need: Lift Equipment: Motorcycle Lifts, Air Lift Jacks, Axle Jacks, etc.

My apologies, it is a "Big Red" just measured it, 24". Got it at Northern Tools

I'm looking at some floor jacks by Pittsburgh Automotives...see lots of good reviews. Any input?
