Do Saharahs have Lockers?

I thought that only the Jeep Rubicon came with lockers. Dana 44's I think are what's on all Rubicons. Thats for sure what I'm running on mine though!

Farnham21 04-21-2013 10:52 PM

Um no? Not really getting a point to this...

WatchThis! 04-21-2013 10:53 PM

Wtf??

cattlebaron 04-21-2013 10:54 PM

2012 and up Sahara's do not have lockers from factory and their front axle is a Dana 30 instead of the 44. It might have always been that way but I know the new ones are set up this way.

RKracing 04-21-2013 10:55 PM

I agree on the sport lockers....they do kick ass.

rics1997 04-21-2013 10:57 PM

Sahara's have 4hi and 4lo but not lockers same as Sports unless someone has added lockers as an after market mod. Sports and Sahara's have Dana 44 rears and Dana 30 Fronts. Now early 2007 model Sports and Saharas had an option to get Dana 44 front and rears.

Easy, legit proof that sports have lockers.

I am just thinking it is a confusion between lockers and 4wd. Could be wrong but what I was thinking

Isn't your jeep a MW3?

Yeah but, how do we know that's not a Sahara with lockers? That's the question!

Are those lockers "Anvil", or is it just the showroom lighting? :D

kjeeper10 04-21-2013 11:39 PM

Haha that's funny

Lotrat 04-21-2013 11:40 PM

I had a sport with a 4th pedal to engage the lockers... a foot locker.

David M 04-22-2013 12:40 AM

Sometimes, when threads start out of the gate like this one did, there's really nowhere else to go but down.

Much like this video...

MY Sahara DOES have selectable lockers; Dana 44's front and back; and a 4:1 transfer case!!!!! HAHA:thumb: At least I can wheel in comfort!!:D

panthermark 04-22-2013 06:14 AM

Don't...understand...this...thread...:surrender:

Oh...and one version of the Sahara does have an optional locker....the Moab. :wavey:

They didn't seam to be the brightest folks. Especially the ones that were standing under it trying to flip it back over.

This wasn't a serous question, right? Saharas and Sports have BLD, which acts as a cheap mans locker by stopping the tire that's spinning, giving you similar performance as a locker but not comparable to one.

Welcome Cattle Baron

jcrawler93 04-25-2013 10:28 AM

sometime they come with limited slip on the rear

baytownbert 04-25-2013 11:29 AM

What in the heck is a BLD? Sport's have the option to get TracLok, a limited slip differential in the back Dana 44 only. They are open in the front Dana 30. I'm no expert on what you can get in a Sahara, so, I'll refrain from putting stuff out there that may or may not be factual.

The TracLok works great in mud and sand and I prefer it over a full locker here on the Gulf Coast of Texas. I run one in the front pumpkin also and there is nothing cheap about it's performance in this environment. I go wherever I point the front of my Jeep.

All JK's have BLD.
Brake Lock Differential - it is software that kinda, sorta, almost simulates a mix of a limited-slip and a locker.

BLD means brake lock differential

baytownbert 04-25-2013 12:08 PM

Oh. LOL I defeat that the second i shift into 4 wheel drive. I don't consider that a locker. :)

Rooster76 04-25-2013 12:12 PM

BLD=break lock differential. It's an electronic LSD(limited slip differential) controlled by the computer vs physics. Even in 4-lo. It's on ALL JKs even with the Trac-Lok mechanical LSD option installed. If one wheel on an axle is spinning it will apply some break to it, that transfers torque (power) to the wheel with more grip. You need to understand open differentials for it to really make sense. Watch this and you will understand. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4JhruinbWc

TRAC-LOK (LSD) is an option for all JKs but rubicons. With the anti-spin rear/ Trac-Loc/LSD factory installed it would transfer more power over than just BLD and most likely quicker. It's main downfall is that it uses clutch plates that after 100,000 or less can wear to the point of being useless. They can be replaced. Eaton TrueTracs are a better aftermarket LSD choice. Both can work better in a slip situation with just a bit of break added.

LOCKERS are only good for offroad, and if your stuck. Unlike LSD you need to be aware when to use them to minimize axle/wheel damage. They will slide you down an off camber slick hill. Currently all rubicons have one on each axle (track-lok LSD is not an option). Also Moab editions can get a rear locker as an option(or LSD). They are much better in very large differences of traction. This is especially true if a wheel is in the air where LSD is useless if you don't apply some break.

I can tell you from experience that the BLD does work in 4 lo.

I've had one wheel 2 feet off the ground coming over an obstacle. Let off the gas and just try to crawl and the computer uses the BLD to work the ABS and traction control to vector some power to the wheel with traction. It's not a locker or an LSD, but it can be useful.

I have a Sahara and that couplers with my new 4.10s and OX selectable in the rear should get me through most places I want to wheel.
