Average Wait Time for New Build

Based on my searches it appears wait times vary...

I'm currently driving an employee lease through my wife's work and will have to return the car on July 26...

I intend on ordering a Sahara through USAA car buying service and am curious if there's an average wait time, i.e., 6 weeks, two months, 1 month, etc...from the time you order until delivery at the dealership.

I'd like to balance the Jeep delivery between turning the car in and the first Jeep payment...any advice is appreciated.

I just placed an order for a 2013 Rubicon on Friday and was told 6-8 weeks. The sales manager mentioned he didn't think it would actually take that long, but that is what they have been told to use.

Milspec1 04-22-2013 11:07 AM

Interesting...which is why I may need to place the order now.

Extremneon 04-22-2013 11:08 AM

What is the process for ordering a new Jeep from the dealership? Deposit, credit check and options you want?

Any tips?

4 weeks 2 days from order day at dealer till pickup in South Carolina. It does help for your dealer to put sold order rush on it. My dealer called his Chrysler rep on phone while is was in office to let him know this order was coming over. Allocation had just opened day before so that also has something to do with it. Great experience. Didn't have to put anything down but I had bought a GCerokee year before from them so I told them I wasn't giving them anything down.

They maybe still doing a $1000 rebate for lease turn in. I got it last October with my jeep. Call Jeep hotline and ask. My dealer didn't offer it until I told them about it.

My Sahara JK was 33 days from order to delivery... it was actaully built in about 17 days from order..then came the very frustrating shipping process from the Snail train that took 4 days to go from Ohio to Philadelphia PA (about 500 miles) only then to have my Jeep sit in the train yard for 10 days waiting for a "scheduled pick up transport" to take it to my dealer that was a whopping 30 miles away. (F'in union teamsters !)
But all in all 33 days is pretty darn good i think.
I was also told 6-8 weeks thats the standard info the dealers are told to spew out.

As for the how..IF you decide you absolutley want to order then go into a dealer tell them they don't have what you want and you want to order..STAND FIRM, they will try to "find" you something.
I walked in with a print out i did on my own computer, listing everything i wanted and handed it to the saleman so it could be use as a check list...you don't wanna forget something when ordering....
I gave them a deposit, i gave $2,000 although i don't think that much was required, but i knew I'd be putting down more then that so i'd just roll it in... they told me the deposit was completely refundable, if i changed my mind. They said they would just put the Jeep on the lot for sale.
I didn't sign anything, we agreed to a price, he jotted down all the terms on a sheet of paper, including perks and photo copied it and i went home and waited. I didn't sign anything until the Jeep came in.

Interesting stuff everyone. Appreciate the info.

I may be ordering my Jeep this weekend. Stay tuned...

Very good info... I was wondering how it worked.

Really wanting to order a new 10A 2 door Jeep with the options I want.

Finshing up a sale of a custom car in the next couple of weeks... So after that will be in the market for a Jeep. Pretty set on what color and options I want. Plus I plan on putting 8-10k down on it.

My experience was nearly identical, including the dealer searching in vain for something close to what I wanted. I used the Jeep website to spec out everything, printed it and took it to the dealer.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes!

Milspec1 04-22-2013 01:31 PM

If you are looking at a 10A, keep in mind the dealers ability to order one may be restricted by waiting. They are not going to be able to be ordered past July.

Now a 10A could be a little different, i know that there was a hell of a backlog on those pre-orders. They're really starting to crank them out now, from what i see. Plus if you are looking at a few more weeks to sell your other car and be ready to order some more of the hoopla might be past...
There is info on the Forum that basically will provide you with "invoice pricing" of your spec'd Jeep, exactly how you want to order it. This will be a good negotiating tool...although , again with a 10A i don't know if your negotiating power maybe be totally different....
When i ordered i had a spread sheet with 2 columns..column 1 was MSRP on the base Jeep AND all of the individual options and column 2 was INVOICE pricing on the base Jeep and all the individual options...so at the bottom of the columns i had the TOTAL MSRP and TOTAL INVOICE price of MY JEEP..how i wanted it built.. i was loaded with amo and had plenty of back up to use incase they tried to over charge me.
In the end i got it for about 2% under invoice along with a few perks, i was happy.

Milspec1 04-22-2013 03:42 PM

Well I've just learned the dealer cannot order a 24G Sahara, they can only order with a manual transmission.

He's looking for one in stock, of course...

I may end up ordering a Freedom Edition. We shall see...

DON"T JUMP...give it a little time.. i had one dealer tell me that he couldn't place an order at all cuz BOTH transmissions were on hold....
I think these things come and go...

+1, I had dealers make it seem like what they had on the lot was the last Jeep on earth just to make me pull the trigger faster. I called their bluff every time and waited until i found exactly what i wanted.

Forever

:dance:Hi, it felt like it took FOREVER for my jeep to come in, however it was six weeks! I have had zero problems. So the factory staff did a great job, did I say zero problrms! got a brocure from jeep today and they
will be coming out with the 2.8 diesel soon, so I get to order another JEEP.
LIFE IS GREAT..:whistling::whistling::thumb:

Also, if you do decide to order a 10A, you may want to walk out of the dealership with a signed purchase order ... especially if you were planning to trade something in. My order was placed in January and I am not expected to get my 10A until May

I went hard after my dealer on the value I wanted for my trade, got them to meet me there, and then got a signed copy of the purchase order that clearly spelled out my trade. Granted, I am not sure if it is a legally-binding document under every (or any) scenario, but they indicated they would honor it when I talked to them last week.

I think the OP said he was turning in a lease, but the advice is still relevant to anyone else that might be reading.

I got the same thing when trying to order an MT JK Rubicon in late March.

One of the forum sponsor Jeep dealers replied on the thread (when I asked) that the "restricted" would be lifted on that order on a certain day and he was correct. So I assume that means your dealer should know what's what.

A few days later, I had the order in. I think they do them in batches though. So if you hit a sweet spot, your time to shipping is faster. (I don't have any proof, but just prowling the various waiting rooms it appears that way, and it makes sense.)

I'm in D-1, so that's like purgatory.

Not a Jeep lease... A Honda employee lease. I recently sold my Dodge Ram and VTX Motorcycle, the Honda lease was to just get me by until my bike sold. Now that its all sold, I'm going to get my Jeep with a fat down payment. I'll turn the Honda back over in July, and my financing won't start for 60 days, so I can order a build or just get one now. Waiting to her back from the dealer about one a few hours away at another dealer..

Flint_Holbrook 04-22-2013 10:43 PM

Ordered 2/16, arrived at dealer 3/19 total 33 days

Nek 04-22-2013 11:02 PM

Order time

It's ironic that I just placed my order for a Rubicon tonight. It was my fastest and least painless transaction at any car dealer. In an out in 70 minutes.
The dealer stated that it could take up to 6 was but he feels confident it will arrive in 4ks. I saw on the order form a code for "sold" and asked him what that was about and he said that meant sold to a customer who is now waiting for their car and not just for the dealer to have one sitting in his showroom. Therefore that code will expedite it and push it to the top of the production run.

TX95YJ 04-22-2013 11:49 PM

My 2013 Sahara took 40 days from ordering it to dealership delivery. Not bad, it really went by quick it seemed. It gave me time to get my cash together and pay the balance due after trade. She's all mine.

Extremneon 04-24-2013 11:30 AM

Awesome info here!

Looking forward to ordering my Jeep in the next month or so... Will see, might be before that to be honest.

How does it work if you have a trade in also. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram that is my dd and want to trade it with the sale. Do they just appraise it like any other sell just when the order jeep comes in. Or do they work out all the financing and trade in when you order the Jeep?

legitposter 04-24-2013 12:08 PM

Do you really need to order? Go check out the lots. Test drive some. As soon as you find yourself smiling then you're done, make the deal. You'll never look back or think about it again.
