2:57 p.m.| Industrial Policy: Senator Robert Bennett of Utah points out that “what we are really talking about is getting an industrial policy for one industry,” and goes on to propose one. He wants a G.M.-Chrysler merger, for all the synergies.

Mr. Wagoner says there would be savings from getting rid of one headquarters. But the fact it “would not generate incremental funding from the market” meant it had to be abandoned. Mr. Nardelli said there would be $8 billion in savings. But, “the issue has become one of survival in the immediacy,” says Mr. Nardelli.

Senator Bennett wants to require a merger as part of the bailout. Mr. Wagoner says he would consider it. Mr. Nardelli thinks it would be great.
From today's hearings.

Ya I watched bits and pieces of the Big 3 proceedings today. I watched almost the whole last session....very interesting to watch.

I watched pretty much the entire last session as well.
I watched the last part of todays.
I have really come to like Sen. Bob Corker, from Tennesee I think.
I'm not a fan of the government mandating anything for private companies, but then if they are taking tax payer money, I guess anything goes.
As far as a GM-Chrysler merger, I don't think that would work out well.
