Power Steering Question
So my power steering started whining pretty severely about 3 months ago.
It was my DD up until a month ago when I got my 07 rubi.
I ignored it and made sure the fluid was clean and full, figured i'd deal with it when it went out. Now I am getting a knocking sound coming from what seems to be the power steering pump. I have never heard of the PS making a noise like that, maybe its a bad bearing in the engine?
I am really not sure I used a ghetto made stethoscope to try and locate the noise and it seems to be outside of the engine, and in the region of the Power Steering of pump.
Has anyone ever had an issue similar to this?
Knocking just sitting there running, knocking when you turn the wheel. Put the front up on jack stands so the front tires are off the ground. Start it up, put your hand on the steering box and have someone turn it left and right. Feel a knock or rough spot? Do again and watch the steering/suspension for issues: parts rubbing or touching. See (can you)? take the drive belt off and run it for 20-30 seconds to see if the noise is gone?
Before I came back to check the replies, I went ahead and pulled the belt off, fired up the motor and the noise was gone. The Power Steering pulley was turning very rough and I'm now sure that was the problem.
When you buy a new pump, does it come with the shaft included?
