Noise from jeep, not Penstar tick

I just got my jeep a few weeks ago and have always driven with the radio on so I didn't notice this, or it wasn't there. There is a ticking noise that sounds like it is coming from the left side of the stereo behind the dash. I've watched videos on the other ticking noise that people are experiencing and this definitely isn't it. It happens sporadically during driving and gets annoying. Has anyone had anything like this?

Is it your keys hitting the dash? :)

Just give the dash a little "love tap".

It's not the keys, I only have the one key. I tried hitting the dash in a few spots, but that doesn't help. Sadly, I think if I bring it to the dealership, they won't be able to duplicate the sound and may want to pull apart the dash to look for something loose, that they won't find so I'd rather try to fix it myself, if it's a known issue.

Could it be injector pulse? These things have the noisiest injectors I have ever heard. :hide:

I have something similar happening with my Jeep it came from the shift boot. I have a manual and it would be worse when I was in 1st 3rd or 5th gear. There is something that is in the transfer case shifter that is rattling against the tranny shifter. If you move the transfer case shifter to the left just put a little pressure on it the noise stops. This may be what you're experiencing I thought ours was coming from the dash as well. Its a 2013 jkur 6 speed stock. I noticed when we had about two thousand miles on it, currently has 7500. I haven't paid any attention to it Lately. never did figure out how to make it stop permanently.

Cycle thru all your HVAC settings slowly. Set fan speed to 1 so you can still hear over it running. Then go from hot to cold in 1/4 turn increments & see if you hear anything. Then go thru your mode settings 1 by 1. Then turn on the recirculation door & off. It could be the recirc door actuator causing that noise. Try those things & see if you hear anything.

joe, Madness I have a 98 TJ with the same *ticking sound* i checked headers...heater fan.. i thought it was a heatshield ( no) .. ive checked transfer case fluid after someone posted there's *clicked* when it was low.. and i do not have AC .. so all to no avail. i will check the 4wd handle trick on the way home.. and try to get my phone out and get some audio. its the same sound yall got. almost like a fuel ping behind the dash.. or a rattle.. and it only does it under torque. there is a small ticking sound while idling.. and thats either the lifters or the injectors. Someone with a better ear could probably tell...i turn a wrench.. but not fer a livin:)
Thank for yalls input and i will keep yall posted

I tried to push down on the 4x4 handle.. and it grinded... so ..not doing that again:).. still haven't found the cause of the tick.
