Wicked Christmas Light Display

this is awesome. apparently you can buy a computerized outlet that you plug the lights into and it does the show in unison with the music.

there is this one house that a guy does every year.. its awesome.. my dads friend actually did this once too.. his is actually a computer program.. you run the lights to the computer instead of an outlet

I would hate to be the neighbor. Cool the first week, annoying the rest of the time. From what I gather, you tune a radio to some a/m station for the music.

I heard a lady from dallas TX area being interviewed the other day. She runs a decoration company that sets displays like this up for wealthy people. $7000 to $10,000 just to do one house.

The video said FM 107.3 so the Rush Limbaugh thing is out :D

There was one I saw from several years ago using that same song. I was going to do something like this a few years ago but its very time consuming. It's not a matter of just plugging in a few things and pushing play. You have to do all the computer programming and that takes hours upon hours.

Here is the one I saw a few years ago, and another really really cool one that I like using Carol of the Bells.

a guy in our town does it like this, but instead of playing music out loud to annoy the neighbors, he's got a sign in the front yard telling you what station to tune to on your radio, andwhen you go to that station the music and lights correspond, its pretty cool

right, thats what I was talking about. Must play at certain times

Coyote_94YJ 12-07-2008 06:45 PM

One of the guys I talked to said they just broadcast on what ever FM frequency and they'll have 2,3 or more songs lined up and they just play continuously through set times like from 6-9pm so you can drive by and tune the radio in at anytime between 6 and 9.
Some guys will have up to 6 songs programmed in. You can just stop and listen/watch all 6 if you want.

TommyFTR 12-07-2008 07:30 PM

that is pretty cool.

JeepersdoitDeeper 12-07-2008 07:45 PM

One of the Dallas area homes, possibly that one does this every year. They have added a couple neighbors homes to the display this year. Takes 8 months to put together. They said next year they will start with houses across the street controlled though a wi-fi set up.

Coyote_94YJ 12-08-2008 12:11 AM

Yikes. Didn't know it took that long. That's insane. So you start planning your Christmas lights display in May.
