Anyone have a Smith&Wesson M&P15 Sport (budget AR15)

Looking at this budget AR15 to get me into the AR15 platform. Anyone have this particular model? The reviews about this rifle have been pretty good online, but I know very little about AR15's. Anyone have one or shot one? Guess it is very basic but dependable. Here's a review:

If anyone has any info on this particular rifle, please post your opinion. PM me if you like. If this is worth the $700 (really good price here in Canada) I can have the rifle and still have cash to mod my Jeep :punk:

(Yes, we can have AR15's in Canada, only for approved range use).

Guy i work next to has one. He likes it, he paid 650$ for it a year ago. It has a few options that are not installed. But not vital to non combat shooting. The sport has no forward assist and no gas launcher attachment portion on the barrel. I have a stag ar15 and it has all the stuff his doesnt and i have never used any of them. They are cool to have but not vital and thats why S&W made this rifle, they wanted an affordable ar15 for guys to get started with. I have used my forward assist with my 22lr bolt kit installed but have yet to need it with 5.56/.223 rounds. I say buy it at 700$ as that is a good price.

^ Thanks for the reply. This is the consensus that I've read. The more premium features would be lost on me anyway, as a leisure range shooter. I'm debating whether to buy this rifle or get some AR Fuel black wheels for my 13' Wrangler...

Wish I had an unlimited income but I owed money this tax season  which has dented my wallet a little bit.

Buy the gun its a better investment, because down the road if you want the wheels sell the gun. You wont lose much if any of price you purchased for the gun.

I was thinking the same thing :thumb:

I have one in my safe. It is not a bad buy at all. I did change the trigger out to a rock river arms national match. The stock trigger is a typical lawyer trigger and was heavy.

I know nothing about the AR15 platform, how much was this upgrade? Is it a drop in mod or would it be for an advanced user only? Thanks.

Well, I ordered one. Wheels and tires can wait.

I've got one and like it. I wish I would have upgraded a little to have a lo-profile gas block and longer rail, but the gun is crazy accurate and handles just about any ammo I throw at it. It is a good gun. Here is mine as of today. I have added a command arms foregrip, red dot, mako magwell grip, .and a 5" riser with 45 degree offset.

Sorry I never made it back to this thread. I shopped around & found one for $90 shipped before the craziness. Now not sure how much. It was not a hard swap. Took a couple of minutes. I think there are even YouTube videos on it. As for the front sight, I changed that out as well with a Yankee hill folding site and gas block to get it out of the way. The front site is pinned with tapered pins that must be pushed out from one direction. That took a little time, but not hard.

You are giving me ideas :whistling:. I haven't shot the rifle yet, still awaiting my ammo to arrive, but the trigger doesn't seem to be that bad in dry firing. How much of an improvement is the new trigger assembly?

I bought a red dot but it's supposed to co-witness with the front sight therefore I'll be keeping it for the time being. It's good to have a rifle platform with endless mods... reminds us of our Wranglers!

Yes they are you can put lots of money in them and lots of money down range with ammo. If you have a place to shoot I recommend some tannerite with watermelons or pumpkings!! Adults and kids get a kick out of seeing stuff explode.
