So I don't care at all for air conditioning in cars. My last four either didn't have it or it didn't work. Plus I hate the smell... However my new jeep does have it and tho I never will actually use it, the stupid compressor comes on every 10 seconds or so... It's super loud and annoying when I'm not playing music and am trying to talk to my passengers (I know jeeps, especially soft tops, are already noisy, but this is just one more noise and an unnecessary one at that). I don't know if it is broken, or needs some wd40, or if that is just how it is, but honestly I don't care. I just want to remove it. I will never use it anyway because when summer hits the top comes down and the doors off. So in a really long winded way what I am trying to ask is whether or not it is easy to dismantle my ac. I would like to clean it out completely so there aren't any unused extra parts under the hood. The only step I have made so far is buying a new serpentine belt. Thanks for all the help!

I pulled all of mine out of my 97TJ. Was easy. I pulled the condenser coil out from by the radiator also. Got rid of a bunch of weight that wasn't doing me any good.

Might want to double check that its your AC making them noises and not say the fan (Just an idea). Also instead of pulling it why don't you do the AC to air compressor mod, pretty easy and gives you OBA. Something I would suggest:popcorn:

What cudruin said. Make your a/c into an air compressor, there are several posts on how to do this. I would, but once in a while I use my a/c here in Texas.

Be aware that your defroster will not work properly without the A/C. You have a different heater/defroster unit than a Jeep built without A/C, and it uses the evaporator coil to dry the defrost air, then heats it.
In fact, every position on the selector knob marked with the "sun" symbol should engage the A/C compressor intermittently. If yours is cycling on/off every 10 seconds, it means you have low refrigerant levels, and that is an easy cheap fix.
Avoiding the smell is simple. When you are running the A/C, anticipate the end of the ride by 1-2 miles, and turn the A/C OFF and the blower to HIGH. This drys out your evaporator coil, and a dry coil avoids the mold growth that causes the smell. A/C OFF means that the selector knob is in a position without the "sun" symbol.
DON'T take anybody's advice to spray Fabreze, Chlorox, or even the aerosol A/C cleaner into your Jeep. All of those eat up the aluminum parts and a pinhole developes which causes the refrigerant and compressor oil to spray out, ruiing the entire Jeep dash and interior.

It's normal. There are two types of systems: the kind where the compressor stays engaged constantly when the A/C or defrost mode is selected and the kind that cycle on and off when the A/C or defrost mode is selected. Ours is supposed to cycle every few seconds.
