should I get this CJ-7?

1980 Jeep CJ7

1980 cj-7 for $8500

1980 CJ7- 4cyl, 4 speed, 112k original miles, 33" bfg all terrain tires. Tan full top and black bikini top. Fully restored, rust free, garage kept and in immaculate condition. Fully undercoated and interior sprayed with bedliner. Has never seen the rain since the restoration. 8500 or best resonable offer. May consider trade for ONLY a newer (2004-2010) gmc/chev 1500 or F150 extra cab with 4wd.

Personally, I think the price is a little high depending on where in the country you are, and I would wonder what's under the bedlining and undercoating, that sounds like it had a rust issue. There are a lot of 7's out there, you can even buy a new 2013 CJ-7 for $25k.

I didnt see the link at first, Va isnt known for rust is it ? lol
It looks nice, and looks like some attention to detail was paid
but I still think the price is a little high, I would shop around
the area and compare to other listings before you make
an offer, and look it over very thoroughly and think about
how slow that engine/trans combo will be and if you can
live with that long term, why buy less than you want?

Not sure about VA and rust - but the assumption is that someone would not place a liner on bad metal - would ruin the warranty right, a good company would not allow that ... asked for more pics to see the engine / suspension.

most bedliners are applied by the owner. It says rust free, but next to the ocean (Chesapeake Bay) is a tough place to keep sheet metal rust free, I would look at it closely before that kind of expenditure.

One of the things you might consider is looking in a different state and getting it shipped. I am sure somebody from this forum could check out the jeep for you if it wasnt far from them and you asked nicely....find one that is cheaper in a restored condition with sayyyyyy a chevy 350 in it and you will be paying around the same price for more.

NO price is to high and it's a 4CYL.

I agree with Rich, 5500 max...

for that money it should have lockers, winch, full cage.. etc.. and the 4cly 151 is so under powered you may move backwards in time while driving it. If you want to spend that much.. look at a newer built up YJ with a 4.0L or an early TJ.. far better buys than this one.

Ehhhh. this is debatable. Based on your little avatar picture you like YJ's. The OP wants a CJ-7; I agree that the price for what you get on that one is way too much. When it comes to bedliner and undercoating it could be preventative like what I am having done to mine. If they did it right then it will be okay. Honestly if you have that kind of cash to drop, get one that is rust free but with a v8 in it for the power and maybe a few other goodies. Really makes your CJ stand out, great pickup and a blast to drive. Just make sure the swap was done well :)

Not sure what my YJ avatar has to do with anything..If you look under my signature line you will see some numbers.. those numbers refer to the jeeps I have owned. Of which I have owned 2 cj-7's a 79 and an 85..along with several TJ's, ZJ's and XJ's. Thus I think I might provide an insight on price that others can't. To me a 4cly CJ has no value, unless you get it cheap enough to swap in a bigger engine and drivetrain. The reason I brought up for the OP to consider a YJ or TJ is that you can find many built jeeps in those models, in good condition that offer many upgrades vs the CJ.. better engines, better frames, Hvac upgrades etc... for the same or less price.

There are so much better deals out there. Not a good buy the 4 cly is junk and you will want to change it out after the first trail you try to go on and get stuck. Find a CJ7 or CJ5 with the 6 or 8 in it.
