Tire carrier latch

Hey guys! I will be building a custom rear bumper soon for my 2012 jk. It will have a tire carrier and I need a good way to latch it. Any ideas?

No idea how to latch it but I'm looking forward to seeing your DIY bumper.

Thanks! I really like the look of the smittybuilt latch but haven't been able to find one to buy just the latch. Ill post pics of the build when I get to it haha

I just finished building a rear bumper with swingout tire carrier, and I used pretty much what most guys use, a Destaco clamp. IIRC, I used model # 344S.

That looks pretty good.. I'm new to the jeep world so I haven't seen many customs. Thanks for the idea

How did you construct the pivot? Nice work BTW.

A to Z Fabrication (Untitled Document) has all the fun parts needed to build the tire carrier. There are even a few options that may help in the customization of your design. A rear bumper and swing away is next on my list of projects and I will be using their materials to build mine. Why reinvent the wheel???

I used the AtoZ swing out kit when I built mine.

Spend the extra $25 and get the mega duty hinge.

I bought a DeStaCo latch but my wife thought it looked to gaudy so I just used the T bolt system that came with the AtoZ kit.

The most important thing is make sure the tire doesn't move at all. As you can see in the first pic, I shaved the stock tire snubbers so they just contact the tire when torqued down. This supports a 35x12.5 MT/RK with no movement or rattles.
