Loud

How can I get my exhaust to be loud and legal? 2.5L TJ

Lando25 04-28-2013 12:02 AM

Not the answer your looking for, but with a 4 cylinder your not gunna get a lot of noise. You can put a fart can on, but than you sound like every other rusted out Honda I see on the road.

I got some noise when I added my new air intake. That and a new exhaust will work we'll together for sound. Nothing really else....

You can put on a new muffler or exhaust system that will change the pitch and volume, but you will never get the sound you are looking for out of a 4cylinder . They just start sounding like farm tractors.

If you don't mind buying used parts... the PO of my Jeep had Nissan mufflers installed and it gives the Jeep a nice low throaty sound.

Black98 04-29-2013 01:45 AM

2.5 or 2.4 and loud is just ... no please

1rbotma 04-29-2013 12:40 PM

get straight pipes. delete the cats (its not legal but what cop is going to crawl underneath your jeep to look.) also if you are interested in an intake i have an aem intake for sale.

Wattapunk 04-29-2013 12:46 PM

Really the best option is going with an aftermarket muffler like flowmaster or Magnaflow. That suggestion on straight pipes is ridiculous.

DarrenT 04-29-2013 01:34 PM

You're not going to get anything other than an amplified chicken fart out of the 2.5l, 4 cylinders just don't have that capability from stock. Like lando said, just going to sound like a crappy fart can honda....
I replaced my entire exhaust system about a month ago, walker pipes, magnaflow cat and muffler (old one was rusted out). It does have a slightly different note to it, but I wouldn't waste your money trying to make it sound like a chevy 427.....

he wanted loud. so i gave a suggestion. not that i would do straight pipes.

in my opinion having a 2.5 is ridiculous. but if thats what you have then keep wheeling with it.

i have magnaflow myself because i would like to hold a conversation in my jeep without having to raise my voice.

I would go with straight pipes and a microphone at the exhaust tip that plays through PA speakers mounted in the cab. That way it will be a really loud duck fart when you stomp it. Ladies love loud 4 bangers. :)

A 4banger straight piped sounds quite similar to a john deer. Its actually pretty funny  They sound terrible at higher Rpm's as well.

Wow...that is the most rediculous sound I have ever heard out of a jeep. Cops have to love that, as well as neighbors. It sounds like it is in disrepair, not like it has performance modifications. That thing has to drive like sh!t too. No back pressure at all?
Geez.....some people

_plaisance 04-29-2013 09:55 PM

RevCo666 04-29-2013 09:59 PM

Why?? really WHY would someone do that to there jeep (straight pipe...) I'm still shaking my head writing this post...

JakeBreen 08-24-2013 09:05 AM

Sounds like my 1972 ford tractor

TJDave 08-24-2013 09:58 AM

If you take your Jeep off road anywhere that there are Land Nazis trying to close down trails, a loud Jeep is no-bueno....Especially with 4 raspy sounding squirrels under the hood.

Keep it quiet. Keep public lands open to motorized recreation.

JakeBreen 08-24-2013 11:42 PM

Land nazis??? I will be copying that alot. :thumb:
