Dana 44 Rear Wheel Bearings

Hey guys, I just replaced my rear wheel bearings in my dana 44 a few weeks ago. They were tight for about a week, and now there is some slop in them again. Is this normal? I've been searching for an answer for weeks on other forums and emailed both superior axle and dana with no response. Any input would b greatly appreciated.

Is the axle stock otherwise? Have you done anything else like perhaps swapping the OE drums for disk brakes?

Since you're a bit stingy with the details, let me proffer up a guess.

You have rear drum brakes, you have aftermarket axles and you are using Rubicon axle retainers flipped around backwards?

02 tj sahara, It's a stock dana 44 with the factory LSD, and aftermarket axle shafts. I'm using the normal dana 44 retainer plates as per the instructions and as per my stock ones that came out.

Still drum brakes

Any guesses? Both of my wheel seals are now leaking as well and they were new with the axles and bearings

What brand? I have had poor luck with Omix-Ada.

As per above, what brand?

They were cr brand with tinker bearings. Came with the superior axles. I just pulled them out and put in national seals and bearings and made sure I pressed them on real good and straight, and the national seal is much better quality than that cr junk. Will update on how it holds up, feels tight today

CR is also known as Chicago Rawhide who has one of the very best reputation for the ruggedness & durability of their seals. SKF bought Chicago Rawhide several years ago which made them harder to get but no less desirable. Being able to get a CR seal always makes me more confident I'll be able to get it seated into difficult seating situations without damage.

It was a cheap cr seal tho. Cr does make good seals you just have to get the good ones. Lol
