I picked up my first wrangler a couple weeks ago, 98 sport 5 speed. It has rs9000 shocks with rancho coils. I think they are around 2 inches of lift (front coil measures 14in and rear 9.5 inches with body weight). It also has a inch of body lift, sitting on bfg km2 33s. Everything else (suspension wise) is factory I believe, besides quick disconnects. I would like to remove the body lift and switch to a 4 inch suspension lift. What all needs to be done? I've read about the sye, but do I need different shocks, etc. Also for the 2 inch rancho lift, do you think anything else has been changed from factory to accommodate this lift? Thanks guys!

You will need new shocks and will also want to extend your bump stops. Also regarding the SYE/CV drive shaft, usually any time you pass 3 inches of a lift your going to want to install it. Your also going to need new rear upper adjustable control arms and a new adjustable trac bar. :thumb:

Actually those rs9000 shocks come with ranchos 4in lift so you don't need to change those, but look I to there lift might save some money since you have the shocks already.

i have a 4" lift without a SYE and I haven't had any problems with it. however not much articulation occurs in my rear axle as it does in the front axle. i believe.

Did you use a TC drop?

I would double check the P/N stamped on the shocks but I doubt it would work for a 4" lift. You will need extended bumpstops regardless. Seems like alot of trouble and costs gaining the extra 1" by going that route.. Keep the 1"BL and just swap the springs for 3" springs. You may be able to keep the shocks and avoid the SYE/DS.

Yea that's another option! If your on a strict budget then a TC drop may be for you. But you will happier with the sye kit :) you get to keep your clearance and have a better angle

If I went with 3 inch springs and kept body, would I still need new control arms and trac bar, or a sye potentially? I'd rather do a sye than tcase if it comes down to that. Also, any recommendations on 3inch coils?

Some jeeps are different like I'm running a 2.5 suspension and 1.25 body lift with no SYE or TC drop and I have no vibes at all! Odds are though your going to need/want the SYE kit:)! Plus your getting it out of the way. Id recommend ( as would others) savvy/currie coils. They are on my wish list :)
