What shocks should I get?

Just installed a Teraflex 2.5 lift, now I need new shocks......so many choices!! i mostly drive on the road so I dont need anything too fancy, any suggestions? Thanks

SilverSport 04-29-2013 07:35 PM

2 popular choices are the Bilstein 5100s and the Rancho 9000s.

I just got the Rancho 9000 XL 4wheel parts had 10% off plus Rancho had $100 rebate. 9 different settings. I really like them. I got them for $300 in the end.

x2 on the Rancho adjustables. I installed the Bilsteins on my 2 door JK, and I thought they were too stiff so I returned them. Much happier with the Ranchos.

The teraflex shocks aren't that bad from what I've heard and I believe they are around $250 for all 4 so a good price. Think I'm gonna go that route just so I can be a teraflex fanboy :whistling:

Let me say this. I have had several lifted vehicles in the past, like most here have, but my last build was amazing. I had a 2011 F250 6.7 and bought a Carli suspension with the King Racing 2.5's. The King Shocks on 1 4.5' lift made my truck ride like nothing I have ever been in before. They were not cheap, but they were AMAZING.

I traveled on the highway a lot with Nitto Trail Grappler 35" and loved it. No matter the condition, my rig rode like a Cadillac. The only reason I sold it was because I had all types of sensor issues and a turbo that went out at 23K miles. I decided to get back in a Jeep and love it. Again, I know King's are pricey, but it's because they truly are built for your vehicle. I am sure some Jeep owners on here have them and can vouch the same.

If I build up this 13 Rubi Unlimited (daughter will be driving soon so I may give it to her), it will be with King Shocks. My .02

When I do my shock upgrade, I think im going with old man emu nitros

Farnham21 04-30-2013 12:08 AM

^those are my other choice that I'm thinking about.

traitor08 04-30-2013 10:24 PM

I went with fox racing.

rics1997 04-30-2013 11:42 PM

I went with Fox Racing 2.0 and they are great shocks for the trail but are pretty stiff for the road. Feels more like truck shocks.

mckey73 04-30-2013 11:45 PM

I like these.

Just have to save up for a year or two.

I also have the Teraflex 2.5" lift with shock extensions. If I order the Rancho 9000's, is there a specific spec to accomdate this lift, or will any 9000 work?

Thanks, Amigo.

kjeeper10 05-01-2013 05:56 AM

Iirc amazon has a good deal on the 9000s.
Pair with the $100 rebate :thumb:

Wrangler010 05-01-2013 04:06 PM

anyone have the Rancho rs7000 shocks? they don't seem too terrible

ohioviper 05-01-2013 04:19 PM

+1 for the Rancho 9000s . Love the ability to change the settings for offroad and back for highway. They work great with the TF 2.5" spring lift.Got mine off Amazon with free shipping $275 after rebate.

^^^
I just put on my 2" sport lift with 4 Rancho 9000's. Night and day difference. I barely feel the washboard roads anymore. Not much dive in the front when braking and the overall handling improved noticeably.

I believe these are a mono-tube shock and similar to the Bilstein 4600 and 5100.

I actually broke from the norm...and went with the Skyjacker M95 Monotubes...I had read that they were more compliant on-road than the Bilsteins so I took the chance on them. They really are smooth. The road manners are very nice.

Wrangler010 05-01-2013 07:48 PM

I think I'm liking the m95 shocks.....reviews seem pretty good, and they're a little more reasonably priced......

SilverSport 05-01-2013 07:58 PM

Cheap and good don't necessarily go together. LOL

xirtic 05-01-2013 08:10 PM

The Skyjacker M95's are a similar price to the Teraflex shocks, and the Rancho 7000 units. The build quality is not "cheap" like their nitro/hydro units. They may prove to be a "moderate" price-point that offers the DD crowd a nice on-road experience...that can also preform well for the off-road trail runs.

jklarry 05-01-2013 08:11 PM

Rancho 9000s, adjustable to your Jeep's needs :thumb:

blackforestgreen 05-02-2013 01:10 AM

most are also happy with the "red" rubicon shocks.

Wrangler010 05-04-2013 02:57 PM

I went with the sky jacker m95's! The front 2 have already shipped, but the back 2 are on back order.....fml
