CB Install Parts List

Sooo I think I've gathered everything I need to install it. I'm already thinking about ditching the rugged ridge spare mount though since its painted black and going with the stainless steel teraflex mount.

Teraflex 4997101 - TeraFlex CB Antenna Mount in Stainless Steel for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

So far I have

Midland portable CB
Firestick firefly 48" antenna
18' coaxial cable
firestick stud/spring mount

I plan on buying a swr meter to tune the antenna. What is the most common one to use?

Is there anything else or tips for the install?

I second the stainless steel antenna mount.

Do you have some 10 or 12 ga wire laying around the house to run a ground from the antenna mount thru the tailgate to the body?
I would also suggest the Firestik antenna quick disconnect: Firestik CB Antenna Quick Disconnect K-1A | Right Channel Radios

Also look for the thread in this forum about Best CB Brands. Lots of helpful info and links to other helpful threads courtesy of Rooster76.

Yea, the ground wire wont be an issue. I was wanting the quick disconnect but it seemed sold out everywhere I looked, thanks for the link on it!

Just ordered the teraflex stainless steel mount and quick disconnect.

Nice!

Kiddmen57 04-29-2013 10:57 PM

I'm waiting for all my goodies to arrive. Ordered on Saturday.

Cobra 19DVIX
FireStik Firefly 48" Black
Firestick FireRing 18' FME coax cable
Firestik FirerRng stud mount
Rugged Ridge spare tire mount
Quadratec Disconnect (the Firestik is sold out everywhere)

I keep forgetting how much a "cheapie" CB instll costs....

Still to determine or build - external speaker placed in soundbar or elsewhere.

CB installed in center console.

Why the quick disco?

Seems more convenient to remove it.

Picked up this swr meter and jumper cable from Radio Shack today.

Pulling into garages without whacking antenna, going thru carwashes, prevent antenna theft just to name a few.

Yea, its not fitting in my garage at all. I'll just keep it off unless I'm going out on a trail.

What do y'all think of fabbing up a mount such as this one, my concerns would be the strength and durability with it whacking around up there (mounted on a spring base)? But it does seem very efficient at getting that antenna high above the roof and centered for optimum broadcast. It looks like all it is is 1" angle aluminum picked up at any hardware store. One could even sub in it's steel counterpart.

^It has possibilities.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that section of he light is plastic. I would go lower on the neck where it's at least metal.

ETA: Disregard. That whole section is metal.

That section is metal. Just the LED portion is plastic.

Install was pretty straight forward, had good swr readings right off the bat. Pretty clean install.

Had my helper

No rubbing on the tire.

My stainless mount didn't arrive in time and I needed this for tomorrow. I may just stay with the rugged ridge mount. I didn't sand off any paint on it and everything seems to be good so far.

How does that setup work with the Midland portable? I have the same one on the way, and was thinking of doing exactly as you did with yours...except I may go with a shorter firestik since yours looks like it is sticking up higher than I thought a 4' would. Where did you run your coax to? I was thinking of running mine into the center console to keep it hidden and there is already a power port in there to run the hand held.

Ps. Your setup looks clean and neat, I like it.

Kiddmen57 05-05-2013 01:51 PM

Good and clean. I went pretty much the same way. Same antenna location, though I put the CB in the center console.

Not trying to hijack the OP, but more pics of a similar install that may be helpful are in my build thread.
Anyone interested can see it here:

I used it today on the trails for the first time. The two other people could hear me clearly however I was having trouble hearing them clearly and they couldnt understand each other either. They just had short antennas mounted with a magnet. They could also hear me from a good distance but I could not get their signal.

I am going to pull that spring/stud mount off and go with just a stud. It bounced back and forth way to much for what I wanted.

I ran the coaxial to between the console and passenger seat. So the CB has a Y shaped wire from it, one for the power plugged into the power port inside the console and then the other line to the antenna just sitting right there between the console and seat. It can tuck away when not in use.

SilverSport 05-05-2013 11:03 PM

FWIW I went with the Firefly which is designed to flex and no spring.
