How to listen to internet radio from phone inside my jeep?

I have an older cd player that doesn't have an auxillary port or USB connection. I don't want to replace it because there is nothing wrong with it. It seems like I seen where someone installed a USB port to their head unit and listened to music on their phone through a USB cable plugged into it. Can this be done or am I chasing a ghost?

USB is simply a type of connection.
If your radio doesnt have a way to receive, translate, and utilize the date...you;re S.O.L.
In this case, your radio would need a USB port on it somewhere in order for a USB plug to work.

There MIGHT be some sort of aftermarket bootstrap thingy that would take your audio-source (iphone, ipod, walkman, XM, etc)...audio jack out to a low-power FM receiver....which then makes a short-range FM transmission to your vehicles FM antenna...which then goes to your FM radio.

I tried a few of these several years ago and the audio quality was absolutely dreadful. THings may have improved.

But that would be about $40-50. A new radio with built in USB is under $150. You can install it with a snazzy trim kit so that it looks factory for under $200.

Save up and do it right.

Inexpensive, half-assed, immediate gratification....is rarely rewarding in any context.

Doing it right is always less expensive than doing it over.

I aint talking about going out and throwing money at an Alpine or Kenwood....I been there, done that.

Money is hard to come by (if you're honest) and it should be spent carefully.

Another possibility....look at craigslist. Somebody is always upgrading from perfectly good mid-range systems to some sparkly new thing with more bells and whistles. They sell their mid-range...everybody wins.

There's a slight chance the head unit will have a rear aux/RCA input. Take it out and see what you can work with.

If not Vroooom is totally right, don't cheap out on it. I paid around $70-80 for a headunit and all I was looking for was front aux. Also, if your unit doesn't have an aux port, it's obviously old, and audio tech has advanced since then.

You can get alpine and Kenwood receivers all day on craigslist for $50 that will have usb and aux plus, the receiver u find will probably be better than the cheap one u would pay full price for

Thanks for the replies. I took the receiver out today and it does have front and rear auxiliary outputs. I have a set of cables that plugs into my phone and the other end has two connectors like on an rca plug. I can hook it up to either front speakers or the rear and they play. The only drawback is I can't play both front and rear at the same time and I have to control the volume through my phone. Oh well I guess its time to upgrade. I have checked craigslist and for the price of the ones listed I might as well buy new.

That actually worked? I would have guessed those were output connections not input.

Minimum $$$ highest audio quality. Cassette adapter is low tech and very old school. (works every time :D) plug it into the headphone jack of your cell and you got yourself a hands free plug & play stereo phone system. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3932756http:

and if that didnt work, ya can always unplug your radio and sort out the wire connecting to the speaker, rewire them to headphone/ usb or whatever jack you want...
