OK, so what's worse?

:banghead:Whatís worse, not being told if an item you ordered is not in stock? Or, seeing an item that shows in stock ordering it an getting an e-mail that it really isnít?
Remember when stuff ordered on line was cheaper than comparable stuff in the store? Well we expected crappy service for that. Now we have to order almost everything online and Iíve had both the above happen to me recently. Ordered from Amazon and had my order cancelled, had to call them to find out why and they said it shows in stock but the shelf was empty. Oh well s*** happens right. Order from 4wheelparts and get an e-mail (three days later) telling me my order shipped minus the stuff that is ďnot in stockĒ. WTF you mean these people donít know what they have? Or donít want to tell you till after they have your money?
Seems like being pissed at this kind of shopping is getting to be the norm. Oh well, guess Iíll go listen to the valve guides rattle around in my engine now, but itís all good, cause I got a warranty.
Sorry for the rant, not trolling just pissed

Most online places say they have an item because they actually don't keep inventory, they just order it from their supplier when you order it. Then it takes a couple days for the supplier to say they don't have any. And with Amazon they order from everywhere. I ordered some decals for the Jeep and one ended up coming from Germany. The odd thing was it was a decal of a Marine Corp Emblem.

It pisses me off when I order something and it is back ordered. Let me know before I order so I can go somewhere else.

Whats even worse is when you see something you really want and its in stock and you don't have the money to pay for it...

RoadiJeff 04-30-2013 06:19 PM

I still prefer the online experience. Thus far I don't have to pay sales tax on items I buy online if they don't also have a retail store in my state.

I would be annoyed to find an item not in stock when the website claims that it is in stock.

I've gone through this with an order through 4WheelParts. Went with 4WP because they had the item I wanted, on sale, and their shipping was less expensive, making the overall cost less than Quadratec or other sites. Got an e-mail notifying me the item I ordered was on backorder for a couple of weeks while the manufacturer fills the production run for the item. So... I called up Quadratec, found they had the exact item I wanted in stock, and I got them to price match the 4Wheelparts final price, including shipping.

Another scenario : they send the wrong part... Only happen once so far (knock on wood) but I'm not sure if I came out good and or not. Ordered a coverking neoprene front only seat covers via reseller on eBay, they came from California and reached my home in Northern Ontario, Canada thru customs in 10 days which is fast for me. Anyhow, i get my seats covers which were specifically to be gray and black. NP right, the guys sends sea foam gray and black instead. It looks gray/green. Yeah, i contact him up, he says sorry, we can replace at no charge ONLY if i pay for round trip shipping. Shipping one way cost 45$, so an extra 90$ to send the wrong ones back, and get the correct ones. I say sorry but no since i paid 170$ for shipping/cost of product. Put in a dispute with PayPal / ebay and makes me an offer to keep the covers, refund me 125$ and i pay shipping. I reluctantly agreed. My only hope is that they fade enough to look gray with the top down :)

Update. So I get home yesterday to see a box from 4wheelparts, great my stuff is here, open the box and it’s supposed to be that Molle overhead storage setup. Well it’s a big piece of sheet metal, I suppose it’s supposed to be the base of the unit, and nothing else, I call them up and they say there must have been a packaging error (no s***) they tell me if I want to get one fast to just order another one, either way I have to return this one to get my refund. Can you believe these people operate a business like this? I got the return label and will send it back but I cancelled the order, told them they failed to impress me with their business model and I refuse to reward incompetence. Tried to cancell the rest of my order and they said I coulden't, that I would have to refuse the shipment when it got here.

Plenty of companies request the item be returned before issuing a replacement. Probably done for reasons of loss prevention. As in the suggestion offered by the 4WP customer service rep, they can expedite the process by simply charging you for a second item ship it right out to you, and then refund the charge for the original when you send in the item that you want to return. The net charge is zero. Did you expect them to send out a replacement without charge and then simply trust you to send back the original package whenever you got around to it?

If anything you should be ranting about the warehouse picker who screwed up the order in the first place. This is coming from someone who worked as a warehouse picker who was responsible for shipping out orders going UPS. I screwed up some orders. Wrong item, missing an item. Never was it intentional, but sometimes shit happens and orders get screwed up. You're dealing with humans and not a single one of them is perfect.

I trusted them to send my order whenever they "got around to it" I paid for it up front. And yes I did expect them to send me another one, they have my credit card info info, they screwed up the order, It's called customer service. I'm the customer, they provide the service, or in this case not. Plenty of companies trust people to do the right think just like we trust the company to do the right thing. besides the "net cost" is not zero when Visa is involved they charge you immidently when you make a purchase but can take up to 30 days to issue a refund/credit.

Thats not 100% true. States have "use" tax that will tax you on internet purchases that did not charge sales tax. But it is easy to just put $0 in there and keep your fingers crossed that you dont get audited!

Well, 4WheelParts returns policy, and options for returns, are stated clearly on their website.

I will reiterate that I was not happy to have ordered a part from 4WD only to discover it isn't in stock. That's when I decided to give Quadratec my business and had them price match 4WP for the item that 4WP didn't have in stock.
