I've been looking for a 2012 or 2013 with half doors, and there are NONE out there. I used the build your own jeep, then viewed inventory, unchecked ALL options except half doors, and there's not a single half-door in a 200 mile radius of 27713.

Why aren't dealers ordering Wranglers with half doors? The last dealership I went to told me they don't even make half doors anymore, which is bullshit because I can select them when I "build your own" wrangler on jeep.com

Here, check it: Search New Inventory Results

If you select 200+, you'll see the nearest jeep with half doors is 480 miles from me.

Talked to a dealership in Cary, and he said they don't sell well so dealerships don't stock them. NO **** they don't sell well. That's because you're not making them available, so no wonder they don't sell well.

Charles.

jkjeeper06 04-30-2013 01:20 PM

Like your dealer said, even when available they don't sell as well as jeeps with full doors. Most people believe, and aren't totally wrong, that they will not be as good in the winter if you actually have a winter. They do not appeal to the majority of wrangler owners who don't ever take the jeep off pavement and really like the top up with AC on. I understand its very frustrating when you really want them and can't find them tho

xcoaste 04-30-2013 01:24 PM

You will likely have to place an order for one. While you will have about a 4 week wait, you will at least be able to get it exactly how you want it!

DFW6ER 04-30-2013 01:24 PM

OP, FWIW, I've found Jeep's search inventory engine isn't all that great or accurate. Perhaps having the dealer search with their own inventory might get you better results. I know here in N. TX there was absolutely no connection between what wranglers were in stock at dealerships as listed in that search engine and what was physically on the lots I drove to the same day.

SnowboarderOx 04-30-2013 01:25 PM

I take it you can purchase after market 1/2 doors at a decent price?

ChopperCharles 04-30-2013 01:28 PM

Why would I want leaky expensive garbage that I have to paint myself? Or spend $3500 on OEM doors that I still also have to have painted and keyed.

I live in NC. Our winter lasts a month and a half. But we do have monsoon rain storms, so leaky is not an option.

Charles.

Drmad7 04-30-2013 01:30 PM

Yep. They sell, but not as we'll enough for dealers to put them on their lot. Big volume dealers may order one or two and after they sit for a month and someone like you buys them, they go with the full door that may only sit on the lot for 2-3 weeks. Supply and demand. One of my Jeep dealers told me that he is only trying to sell to the masses, so he only orders Black, white, silver, and maybe one red jeep. He said Jeepers who want different colors and features will go out of their way to find those jeeps. Or they will order them. And he's right. Sounds like you will be placing an order. Which is the best way to get what you want anyway. I'm still searching for reasonably priced OEM front half doors for my JK Unlimited!

johnwaynejeep 04-30-2013 01:30 PM

I feel your pain, I want to go full soft top and soft doors in the summer. Bestop is the only manufacturer that I'm aware of that makes a full soft kit that is designed to work together and not just cobled together models.

Buying a new Jeep though, I would prefer the full doors for the weatherization it offers. I do take my Jeep off road, but it's also a daily driver, so comfort is very important to me.

ChopperCharles 04-30-2013 01:44 PM

If it turns out I'm not a huge fan of the half doors, I can always find a set of full doors at a junkyard or eBay and then repaint, for less than the cost and hassle of getting OEM half doors.

That being said, I'm in NC, and my uppers will be off whenever it's not raining. This will be my daily driver, and the only real off-roading I plan to do is taking it on the beach at the outer banks.

Charles.

Jeeperz Creeperz 04-30-2013 03:34 PM

Half doors not on lots? Exactly 1 year ago, I had a difficult time findiing any 2012 Wranglers with:

1) Max towing package (3.73 gear)
2) Limited slip differential

Everything else including color, auto or stick, softop or hardtop and even 2 or 4 door, I could work with. There were only 2 in a 600 mile radius.

Has that gotten any better?

To the OP, see if the dealer would change out the doors for you with a Wrangler on the lot to get the sale. If it doesn't cost much more (negotiate).

It couldn't hurt having 2 sets of doors either.

TOK 04-30-2013 03:54 PM

Nobody wants them because they're a pain in the butt. Get the full doors and buy yourself some trail doors... It takes 10 minutes to swap them and you're not stuck with fragile, inconvenient plastic side windows the rest of the year.

MTH 04-30-2013 04:07 PM

I hear ya Charles, but you've got to think about dealer bottom lines on stuff like this.

Dealers sell a lot of wranglers really fast. Ones with half doors take a lot longer to move. So why waste a spot on the lot with a half doored wrangler? Just for the occasional "purist" who might come along and want one? Do you think they also stock a lot without AC for that reason as well?

They don't. They order jeeps they believe they can move fast. It has nothing to do with having a representative of all the major options or any such thing. It has to do with what gets bought quickly. Nothing else.

When folks ask on the forum about getting stripped down sports with no AC and half doors or hand crank windows, the general advice is that such jeeps are certainly available . . . but you'll probably have to order it.

Sometimes you get lucky and find a dealer that just happens to be a wrangler fan and who ordered one or two as spartan as possible, but it's tough.

st1264 04-30-2013 04:14 PM

Same reason why there is almost 10:1 ratio of 4dr to 2dr Wranglers on the lots. 4dr models are more popular. Few if any want half doors so they don't stock them. If you want half doors, you order or locate one.

The dealer I bought from had a couple Wranglers sit on the lot all winter as they had just a soft top... few would buy a soft top only Wrangler when it's cold here.

GoldenSahara00 04-30-2013 04:18 PM

Half doors and soft top rock. Anything else is for grocery getting ;)

Just joking around. OP I'm sorry, that is terrible. perhaps order your own jeep?

This is a great idea.

Also here is a link to quadratec's bestop soft doors for sale:

Yeah, that's what it looks like I'm going to have to do. The closest with half doors are in Florida, and those don't have 3.73 gears in them either. So, custom Jeep for me!

Charles.

So true! I make sure to have no doors and no top when I run to the grocery store because after all, I have to get my groceries at some point ;)

gr8fulKID 04-30-2013 09:29 PM

I would just get the strike force zebra half doors, and their upper sliders when they release them which I think is soon. Im guessing for a 2 door, the uppers and lowers will be around 1000

Mopar half doors are like $1200 for 2 doors & double for 4 doors. But I would get full doors then spend like $400 for some tube doors with webbing.

JKBrad 04-30-2013 11:56 PM

The local dealer here usually has half door equipped units in stock, not many though. The climate here means that they will sell. I'm guessing anywhere North of Albuquerque/Dallas/Atlanta and they become a tough sell to the general public.

ChopperCharles 05-02-2013 12:06 PM

Question. If I order with half doors, is there any option for an alarm?

Charles.

scuba_steve 05-02-2013 12:33 PM

I suggest buying with full doors and either picking up half doors and having them painted or getting tube doors.

You'll probably want full doors anyway at some point. Take my word for it. I had half doors for seven years...and unzipping the windows is a pain...and they get scratched...and you can't knock ice off of them without the risk of breaking one (been there, done that).

EDIT: I see you live in NC...so ice is probably not a concern. That said, they are still somewhat of a pain and I wouldn't do it again, but they are nice with the top off...or with a bikini top in the rain.

Just don't leave anything of value in it

ShoreWrangler 05-02-2013 12:59 PM

I've been jealous of half doors ever since I picked my JK up from the dealer. they don't make a whole lot of sense, but maybe that's the point. Wish I had a pair to put on in the summer

I honestly don't like my friends jeeps that have full doors. I think I am just comfortable with the way my arm sits on the half doors though, and the fact that they have zippers, and I can't hear anything on the highway. :thumb:

Old Dogger 05-02-2013 02:03 PM

They are in very low demand, plus they are ugly and they leak! Why would you ever want them???
Dealers stock in their inventory, what they are projecting, as to what is favorable to the public for a quick sale. That is how they stay in business! Full hard doors are higher in demand. If you are looking/wanting the opened look, then the hard doors are easy to remove. This way you have the best of both worlds..................

Yes! hell My hard top leaks

Miser 05-02-2013 02:17 PM

My drivers side full hard door would only leak when I was washing it with a hose. A very simple adjustment took care of it.
In Arizona, I do see a lot of TJs with soft hard doors, but I have never seen a JK with them.
Most of the TJs have soft tops and just about all of the JKs have the Hard tops.
I don't know if that is just in Arizona, or common across the country.

jkjeeper06 05-02-2013 02:22 PM

With Arizona heat, hard doors and a hard top would be better insulated.

Are soft uppers compatible with a hard top?

johncunningham 05-02-2013 02:44 PM

I recently ordered a JKU with half doors. I live in New England and had multiple dealerships tell me that they COULD NOT under any circumstances order a jeep with half doors. Apparently it is a very unusual request around here. Long story short, I got some help from this forum. If you decide to order half doors, be sure that your dealer enters it into Chrysler's system as a "sold order".

I've only had my jeep since March, and the weather is just starting to turn, but I absolutely love the half doors. However, this is a third car for me, I have space in the garage, and don't have to drive it in the rain or snow. Also, I have never, ever seen a JK/JKU with half doors, except for the one I ordered. Bought it sight unseen. Love it.
