YJ to CJ Dash
So I am considering doing this. In all the threads online I could not find a quick clear answer. How hard is it to swap the dash? I have pulled my dash before, and am going to pull it again this summer to replace the blower and probably upgrade my dash speakers.

I am wondering how much extra work I would be getting into if I swapped in a CJ dash. The reason I would like to is because I like the flat metal look much more. I also like the Oh Crap bar, and extra room it seems to offer. I am not sure how much it takes to change out the gauges since I have never done that. Is it just a bolt in swap other than the gauges?

Thanks for any help.

I have done a few aircraft panels in aluminum and think it would be an easy fix....will think about it some more...not really into the plastic look myself.

Yeah, other than making the gauges work, thats about all there is to it. I have made this swap on 3 YJ's (not my own). All of those guys say they love it. Plus it has a lot less area for dust to collect on.

Once you take the plastic portions off, you will see that you basically have a flat dash. The only thing i did different was to use auto meter gauges in the center section, since they are designed to mount in a plain flat panel.

Anyone tryed this adapting stock gauges in? What do you do about the defrost ducts? I hate my dash with a passion and this would be perfect.

One thing I think of off the top of my head that would be aggravating would be the heater controls, now if you had the CJ dash with all the pull style heater controls, fan speed switch, cables. Then I think it wouldn't be to bad. I always liked the heater controls in the old cjs lots better. Seemed more reliable

I'm working on my CJ dash now. A few things i've had to deal with are: headlight switch, fan switch, heater controls, gauges.

So I'm running on CJ gauges, just ordered a cj speedo cable and it hooks right in. The fuel gauge will be backwards, so i ordered white face gauges and reversed the "E" and "F" with a sharpie and some whiteout.

I couldn't figure out a way to do the heater cables so i swapped in a CJ-5 heater core. I pulled all the guts out of the cj core and put in my yj stuff, so i keep the good motor and nothing is rusty. The cables don't hook into the two heater assemblies the same way.

The defroster duct. UGH! Well i cut apart my yj dash and i'm planning on bolting on the plenum to my cj dash. It should look ok. Kind of utilitarian but i like that look. I didn't want to run the defroster through the windshield frame as i just painted the tub and window frame and don't want to ruin my new paint job. Besides the CJ defroster always sucked anyway. I'll post a few pics. soon.

Everyones always said it was a direct swap but I knew there had to be more to it than that. Myquiet, would love to see pics you have of it. A build sheet would be awesome to, maybe a complete one on all your yj to cj conversion lol sounds like a sweet project

This company makes replacement dashes.
I've been wanting to do this to mine, but waiting to do it when and if I ever do an engine swap.
