For those who have lined their tub
Should I pull the rollbars out or not?

rykemc 04-30-2013 05:35 PM

Personally I would. There tends to be a little bit of rust (surface) or a lot of rust (holes) depending where you are from. Pulling the roll bar will let you see what is there, fix it and then seal it so it does not happen again. Just my .02 worth :)

wrangleryj90 04-30-2013 06:13 PM

I personally didn't pull mine and I regret it there are spots harder to get with them on so it doesn't look as good now

jj.91.yj 04-30-2013 06:37 PM

What do you guy recommend to use on the tub as far as a liner ?

wrangleryj90 04-30-2013 06:40 PM

I used herculiner and don't like it was cheap and well it acts cheap I would use monstaliner

Definitely take out the roll bar. The prep work is 75% of the work. I used Durabak

Monstaliner all the way I just did mine a few weeks ago with the pyroclastic color I pulled the roll bars and lines them also prepwork was tedious but well worth it

Oozing machismo 04-30-2013 08:50 PM

Yeah, I already bought the monstaliner. After looking at a bunch of posts, it seemed like that was the way to go. I have a red 94 with jeep spice interior. I bought the jeep spice monstaliner to match. I will start taking the rollbar

I had to drill out four screws that stripped out make sure you have a good torx bit and be liberal with the PB blaster for a few soaks I ended up buying all new bolts to stay away from those lousy torx screws

herculinered and spent a ton of time on prep!! why would you have to take roll bars out?

Gothere 05-02-2013 05:53 PM

Damit you guys! I did my liner about a year ago, and I agree pull the roll bar, I didn't and wish I had, and I used herculiner....OK so NOW I have another to do list on my jeep, pull the roll bars and re-do the liner with Monstaliner....Thanks Guys!

I still don't see why to pull roll bars!! tape them off, no? just can't figure out a reason to pull em...

I pulled the bars on mine. And fixed all the rust that was underneath the mounts. That was the main reason for pulling the bars out. I would think that it is personal preference on if you want to pull themor just tape them off.

Monstaliner is a very very good product, as long as you prep properly. Follow the instructions exactly and it will turn out perfect. 1 gal did 3 coats inside my tub, with enough left over to give 2 extra coats to the high traffic areas. i.e...the front floor pans and the rear entry edge, as well as where the rear passengers feet go. I rolled mine on versus spraying, and if you plan to roll it on, order the roller kit and tell them you want 2 extra roller heads as well as 2 extra detail brushes. In the time it takes to cure up in between coats, you need a new roller head to start again.

I had mine done by Rhino Liner, I wouldn't do it again. Once that stuff is on, almost impossible to get off. Why take it off? I wanted to replace the side panels due to rust but couldn't due to the Rhino liner.

xjrjrx 05-02-2013 08:40 PM

I took them off to get to spots on the body that you can't really reach with the roller sure you could use a brush but the texture doesn't look as good and you don't have to worry about missing spots behind them

Now I have a new (used) rust free tub and am going to use a two part epoxy primer. We use the same primer on a number aircraft due to its superior adhesion, strength and, more importantly, corrosion properties. I believe it is a much better choice compared to any bed liner.

i totally stripped my interior. I like the look of the freshly painted rollbars, seat brackets, ect on my newly lined interior. I went with a desert tan liner and it looks awesome! Everyone does black. i wanted to be a bit different.

Looks awesome! I think I am going to do this soon, could someone list out exactly what I should buy from Monstaliner as far as tools etc....Maybe any other needed materials. I plan on rolling it on.

I used linerextreem. I used the 1.5 gallon kit. Then I went to harbor freight and bought the 2 gallon hopper texture gun. It was fairly easy. Just watch the over spray.
