Brut4ce

Figured since I snagged a smoking deal on Fab equipment I'd start a build and start doing installs and builds again starting with mine...now wife will put the halt on this relatively fast so I've been working quick. She doesn't mind of I'm getting paid but mine is on limited time...lol (I do love and respect her she is usually right lmao really...)

So I grabbed a 2dr after selling my 4 door, wasn't going to but for $10.5k for a 07 that has never been in 4wd figured I could go for it....had the death wobble that scared her and being pregnant she opted to let it go..I slapped poly ball joints on it and all fixed...

What started it was a friend hooked me up with a miller 251, miller spectrum 375, miller ma star 140 tig, 5 bottles, 2 auto hoods, 2 stationary hoods and a TON of consumables and tools, job site lock box, gloves, aprons, $1900 now the equipment had 10 hours Max on the mig and less on the rest....:punk:

Plans for this eventually will be stretched , and heavily modified but for now it'll remain built till I get the rest off the ground....

Was bone stock and girlie, now it has race line monster bead locks, km2 37s, hid's, poly ball joints, Terraflex 3.5" springs, c-gussetts, axle sleeves, ordered 6"+ red crowned brake lines stainless steel, removed rear tire mount, cut fenders.....picking up a d44 front this week and going g to build it up ARB, RCV, 5:13, sleeved, gussetted and all arm mounts beefed up. Then I'll Fab up all the steering and throw Reid knuckles on ....so till then I'll run under geared temporarily...

Did all the work yesterday.

Ended up using the stock frame cross member....
Ground out the frame rails from it and then used a extension hitch and cut off the length I needed...
Flipped the cross member over so it went up instead of down then notched it for the hitch....the pic of the hitch does not show all the gusseting and overlapped steel that was done....

Flipped it cut off the body mount pockets ground frame smooth and then put the cross member in, started the angles and plating I'll finish it tomorrow or Saturday.

Putting angles on it to slide off stuff and will do the sides after I finish plating in the inner sides...this thing will not move....

Here's how it started

Here's how it looks

Front went under the saw this evening, poison spyder BFH bumper. Think I'm going to recess ot back another 2 inches and trim the grill to sink a winch part way in there... make for a lot better approach up there. Will need to trim sway bar mounts though.

http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb9505315/p4pb9505315.jpg

Tomorrow I'll redo rear body mounts, spring retainers, bump stop extension rear, make front shock plates lower that are out 2" up 3/4", and some more stuff (like maybe finish rear bumper lol)

Grabbed 2 front Dana 44 axles and ones loaded all the goodies are going into the blank housing
Rock krawler panhard, new poly brackets and control arm mounts coming in heavy duty, RCV axles, locker, 5:13 gears, poly ball joints, sleeves and gussetss going in tomorrow....
http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb9516715/p4pb9516715.jpg

Grabbed a rear Rubicon D44 stripped it bare and doing poly heavy duty arm mounts, track bar, spring perches, shock mounts raised. Got 5:13s going in with the locker and ten factory chromoly axles.
Had a 3 link on rear and a bunch of really choppey welding so its getting a fresh start.

bullcrew 05-01-2013 02:05 AM

So far in the last 2 weeks I've done 4" poly springs, raceline bead locks, 37"km2, PS bfh front bumper, Dana 44 front, rcv axles, ten factory rear axles, factory lockers front and rear, 5:13 gears, fox 2.0 resevoirs, new modified shock mounts, ordered hydro assist, and a bunch of other stuff....

GoldenSahara00 05-01-2013 05:19 PM

Must be nice to have a big budget

Looks good man. I like what you did with the rear frame/bumper.

daddyjeep 05-01-2013 09:45 PM

Looking good. Love what you did in the rear. Can't wait to see that done. I like the thought of shortening the frame in the front too.

Lol don't know....wish I had a big budget....

I scored a lot of stuff and industry buddies have helped a bit as well....plus doing the work myself there really isn't anything I cant build....a good supply of metal and misc hardware fittings etc....:thumb:

bullcrew 05-01-2013 11:21 PM

Stuck synergy 4" progressive springs on today....was unseating my Terraflex linear 4" out of the pocket...
The ride quality is day and night especially with a 2 door....super plush...

GoldenSahara00 05-01-2013 11:47 PM

Nice :thumb:

I know what you mean, but just your start up tools are about a year of my build budget if not a little more. For now. I like to live vicariously through people like you while I build my low dollar crawler

How high do you feel with 4 inches of lift and 37s? Looks like a pretty nice stance, but 4 inches is a good bit of lift for a 2 door JK. Just curious. I will be running 37s on 3 inches of suspension eventually on my TJ.

They are progressive so they are soft by the time I slap a winch a little armor and a rear 37" on stinger it'll sit a smidge down...plus stretching it will stabalizer and keep the belly up.

GoldenSahara00 05-02-2013 10:47 AM

I didn't know you planned on a stretch, probably didn't read that part

Should be just fine then.

bullcrew 05-02-2013 12:38 PM

When I do my arms here shortly I'm going 3" rear 2" front right away...
Then take a break and start building and installing other peoples stuff....collect some more parts coilovers etc then stretch the rear a full 8"+ and mod the body panels and new drive shaft.

GoldenSahara00 05-02-2013 12:44 PM

That sounds nice. So many things I wish I could do but that would be super illegal here in PA. It's really interesting planning a LCOG on 37s build that will be semi-legal here in PA.

Must be nice to be able to stretch the rear right away in a JK. On the TJs I literally can't stretch half an inch in the rear because of the trackbar and gas tank. Probably will do a cell at some point, and once the track bar is gone with my wishbone 3 link, I can stretch it 4-5 inches front and rear, I think around 10 inches overall would be nice. I like a shorter wheel base honestly. Your plan sounds good for now, I love building but I hate the down time and love wheeling much more.

kramer2k 05-02-2013 10:02 PM

Looking great man. I'm enjoying watching this thing take shape.

bullcrew 05-03-2013 04:24 AM

Taking shape is on hold...added zone castor whims today and have death wobble....so I'll pull them out tomorrow and flip em neutral and see if its gone...took tires off also so I'll check lugs....

Here's the kicker it starts when I hit the brakes and gets wild, it doesn't do it all the time so I don't think rotors are the culprit besides it just started after adding the ship's to the lca.

tjtime 05-03-2013 04:03 PM

Nice work, looking forward to following your progress.

GoldenSahara00 05-03-2013 04:55 PM

Interesting. Let me know how it pans out.

bullcrew 05-04-2013 01:09 AM

Called some buddies at synergy and ordered tie rod, drag link, axle mounts new progressive 3" rear springs and fox stabalizer shock....then we planned a trip here already so chilling with the wife and kids at Madonna inn and grab some jeep parts...
Figure there won't or shouldn't be anything left to wobble...

Got 2 new rotors and brakes at the house and did poly ball joints last week so the way I figure it is wobble once and I'm going to throw upgrades at it.......:punk:

I'll still build all my stuff just at a later date as far as steering.....

bullcrew 05-16-2013 11:33 PM

Got some goodies and some work done been sick sick sick.......so have the kids....

http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb9592466/p4pb9592466.jpg

Did the tie rod, drag link and track bar tomorrow along with the flip kit and HD tie rod ends on all.

http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb9592467/p4pb9592467.jpg

Welded the top plate on and put gussetts behind it welded em in then welded the plate ground slits where the gussetes were behind and slot welded them together. This will be the lower mount points for the tire carrier.

What are your plans for getting a hitch pin into your reciever? can you reach in from the back side? That is how I set up mine. It is a bit of a pain to get in there, but how often do you really need to put a pin in or take it out.

Going to take the plasma cutter and make some cool gussetts with a center oval cut out and then welded to hitch and bumper....
I just haven't got to it yet, a bit too much on the plate...starting axle builds tomorrow and hopefully have em done and in by Thursday gears should be here wed. So it will be a run to push on.......

Anyhow here's a pic of the clearance compared to a stock rear set up.

bullcrew 05-19-2013 09:02 PM

Did some work on axles
Synergy c-gussets, sleeves, upper rear control arm mounts, welded in spring retainers rear, 3" bump extensions front.

This week I'll do the lower rear control arm mounts, raised shock mounts, front lower control arm mounts, synergy ball joints, track bar bracket, rear bump extensions and put them together and install...

All mounts are synergy heavy duty with skids

bullcrew 05-21-2013 11:04 PM

Decided to paint my beadlocks and forgot what a PIA the bolts are undoing and redoing.....lol:doh:

bullcrew 05-22-2013 10:28 PM

Went and welded on the lower control arm mounts, sliders, shock mounts. So now it has the upper and lower synergy HD mounts and the rear shock mount is raised 1.3" as well as chopped off 3/4" of the control arm mount. Its 1.5" higher than stock. Could have gone a bit more but it worked out fine.

bullcrew 05-28-2013 10:14 PM

Sold my one d44 and built up my other....so was a day behind, but did lower control arm mounts HD from synergy as well as track bar bracket synergy and moved shock mounts out 2" and up 1" as well as rotated the mount so it doesn't bind. Sleeved it and did c-gussetts . Pulling out the beat alloy USA ball joints tomorrow morning and putting in new synergy ball joints.....STUPID amount of drop out now.....need aftermarket drive shaft it sits heavily on exhaust lol.....going to gusset the upper control arm mount so I can run it 3 link.

Started the rear tub armor got both sides cut and will fasten them down via nutserts then weld on bars that go front to back and a smidge up to protect the body where the hard top sits...makes sliding into canyon walls more fun....

http://lp1.pinkbike.org/p4pb9648155/p4pb9648155.jpg

bullcrew 06-01-2013 01:18 AM

Went with the cj style cut can always trim out later to the jk lines....

Will weld on the upper bar from front to back on em.

Did the lower mounts today for the tire carrier/stinger they have holes where the weld to the bottom to drain any water from their skids.
