Tire size

I known this has probably been beaten to death but I will ask anyway. What is the largest tire I can run with the stock 15 in wheels without making mods? This is my daily driver and I do take it off road (mainly the beaches) quite often. Ay brand, size and advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can fit 31" on stock. You may need to adjust steering stop with a washer or 2 to get rid of rub at full lock

Bjeep77 05-01-2013 03:27 PM

That's what I was thinking. Would it be better to go with aftermarket wheel and bump up to 16"?

That does nothing but give you more rim and less tire, the whole thing will still be 31. If you want 32's you can buy wheel spacers and maybe cut your fender flares, but any bigger than that and youl need to start lifting

After market wheels with less back space would be okay, but I wouldn't switch to 16's. I made that mistake and now have less selection of tires and pay more for the ones I can get.

Great guys. Thanks a million!

Writing the bold part only makes it worse, so you know this question has been asked but cant be bothered to just look up one of the hundreds of threads with the same question in it.

And so we have an irritated troll. Thanks to those who were helpful

As it turns out, I I'd do a search and found two threads that got close but did not address my needs. This is why I said "probably" in my opening statement. Settled on set of 31x 10.5

It's okay, we won't run out of ink.

Hahahaha! Couldn't resist and thanks!

I tried putting 31x10.5x15's on my stock Jeep and they wouldn't fit. The drivers side rear spring perch would hit the tire. I ended up putting 235x75x15 Goodyear Territory tires on it. That was the biggest tire that would fit.

Nice what brand?

Bjeep77 05-03-2013 01:07 PM

I put on the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 31X10.50R15LT. I will post a pic.

They are close but do not hit and have about a half inch or so clearance. I was out on Cape Hatteras last weekend and never had a problem either and I was super amazed how well they did on sand.

Just a word of advice, don't expect much in the way of mud performance. They cake up quick. I had a set on my jeep before I lift and got 33" mtr's w/ Kevlar.

And if you need a spare I've got an unused one btw :D just saying.

Nice looking jeep!

Bjeep77 05-03-2013 01:34 PM

Thanks for the compliment. Not finished by a long shot yet. Transformation still happening. I have a set of mud tires on my Comanche and this TJ being my daily driver I am not actively seeking mud but the beach........absolutely!

Bjeep77 05-03-2013 01:39 PM

Same tire? If so I would entertain taking it if its used and not completely abused.

Yep. It is totally unused. Literally has rolled maybe 10 times from where it was put on the wheel to my jeep. PM me and I'll see if we can work out a deal.

That's weird, my Jeep is a 04 Columbia Edition as well. The tire would hit the perch and the wheel couldn't even be bolted to the Jeep.

Bjeep77 05-05-2013 04:50 PM

Mine fit perfectly with the stock wheels with no problems even off road. Did they hit on both sides?

TA462 05-07-2013 04:22 PM

Nope just the drivers side rear.

Bjeep77 05-07-2013 08:02 PM

That's strange. I will post some pics before I put the new springs and shocks .
