So I woke up this morning and have a massive crack in my windshield that wasn't there last night. Don't know how it got there, but it needs to be fixed. Have any of y'all replaced windshield glass yourself? How difficult is it to do/what do I need to do it?

Sorry. My insurance has zero deductible for glass, so had it replaced by a pro for free. Check your policy too. Good luck!

I didn't so it myself, but I watched it done just last week. It seems simple enough, and from talking to the guy it's not hard to do, but I wouldn't feel 100% doing it myself. For the price of the adhesive, glass, new seal (if needed), and the time involved it's probably cheaper to have someone do it for you....
He showed me some urethane based bonding agent that another company had applied, it hadn't set fully after two weeks!!

Even without insurance, paying to have someone come out and do it is still pretty cheap and convenient. Pricing it out your really not saving a lot of money doing it yourself. It's damn nice having someone come to your house and having the windshield replaced in 10 minutes.

i just had mine done, covered by insurance.. would have been 320

Without using my insurance at all, I can get my windshield replaced for under $150 at several local San Diego area discount glass shops. The last time I had one done 4-5 years ago it was $130 tax & labor included. To my insurance company, the same shop would have charged $250-300.

I see you are in Colorado...if you ever make your way up to Denver area, there is a guy named Steve on CL that does it for $99. He uses the same glass that Safelite uses. I've had him do three of my cars and have been happy with all three.

Here is his ad:
