Bumper thingy

1 Attachment(s)
So, the dumb-a$$ dealership (Honda, not Jeep) thought it was a good idea to drill two holes in the plastic of my stock bumper to affix their dealer logo plate. I didn't realize that it was attached with screws until last night, when I went to take it off. Now, I have two ugly, and not even cleanly drilled holes in the front of my bumper.
I went ahead and painted the screws black, and will put them back in for now to hide the holes.

Does anyone know where I could get the silver plate that came stock on Sahara models? I know a lot I people take them off. I was thinking about plasti-diping or bed lining one black, and putting it over the bumper.

Feel free to tell me I'm overreacting and should just leave it alone, but I want to leave my stock bumpers on for now, and those two holes are just irritating me now.

You can buy them through various accessory shops, dealership, but best use eBay or Craigslist to fine them (cheaper). Some people don't like them and sell online. Check sale items on here.

jwann01 05-03-2013 06:08 AM

I have seen them at some dealerships and Amazon has the too!

Abnormal-JK 05-03-2013 06:18 AM

I'd just clean them up with a good knife, and fill them with black silicone.

Doesnt North Carolina require a front license plate?

JTPhoto JK 05-03-2013 06:20 AM

I think you will find that most bumpers and Sahara bumper panels will have these front license plate holes.

In NC, we just have the rear plate. The only front plates I ever see around here are for decoration or dealer advertisement.

I just looked it up on Quadratec. $179 for the OE style silver applique! No thanks.
I'll keep and eye on Craigslist, but might just decide to get over it and save my cash for a new bumper down the line.

PecosRiver 05-03-2013 07:20 AM

Why blame the dealer? It could have been brought in from another state or the previous owner may have put on some sort of decorator plate. I have one on my Jeep and I drilled the holes to mount it the day after I brought it home.

blackbelt 05-03-2013 07:28 AM

Check your local craigslist. I've seen them from $25-$100. Or replace the bumper, sometimes you can get them free on the jk sites.

SloanG 05-03-2013 07:30 AM

Mine had the same thing. I used the screws to accent it. Painted my screws and tow hooks red.

I'll post pics later if you want

I live in NC as well. Bought my Rubi in DC. Bastards did the same thing after I specifically told them not to. Now I just have two holes in the bumper. Honestly, I don't even notice them any more.

rustynail11 05-03-2013 08:01 AM

I am in TX and mine was the same when I bought it, no big deal for me becasue a front plate is required in TX. I would be mad if I wasn't required to have a front plate but the bumper is marked in those spots for license plate screws. That doesn't mean they needed to do it though

jadmt 05-03-2013 08:07 AM

mine came from the factory that way. Brand new no dealer front placard. It had the plate screws already in place.

Great, let's bring logic in to this! :-) Of course, it wasn't necessarily the dealer. They just get my wrath because it was their plate I took off.

Cover it with mud.

It's free. :thumb:

better yet run into a big rock or log lol a jeep going on 7 years old deserves some character lol.

nekojku 05-03-2013 09:37 AM

Mine came that way also.

legitposter 05-03-2013 09:39 AM

My Freedom Edition came with the bumper inserts. They are mineral grey instead of silver, though. Anyways, they do not have any signs of license plate holes on them so its very possible to get them without holes I would think.

I bought this one because it had very little "character" for being 7 years old. My last vehicle had a bit too much character. After the Dodge Ram, the deer, and a couple of times getting rear ended, I stopped caring.

I'd like to keep this vehicle looking decent. I know it's a Jeep and will get scratched up, but I'd like to enjoy the newness for a bit.

technically...the dealership damaged your vehicle.

Have THEM replace it.

They will dispute.

It'll be an entertaining arguement.

Ultimately...you'll end up going corporate.

MangoTangoJK 05-03-2013 05:02 PM

If you google images search "Plastic Bumper Plugs" you will see some little black plugs that go in the those holes. It isn't perfect, but I had this issue on a Silver Mustang and I used them painted to match and it was a lot less noticeable. Again, it's not as perfect as a non drilled bumper, but it looks a lot better than having empty holes or screws holding nothing on.

I'm pretty sure there is a sold-as-is clause somewhere in the used car contract. I don't think that bumper is covered under the 30-day warranty.

:thumb: exactly and I imagine it was the dealer that sold it new in 06 or 07.

agreed, OP if you lived closer, you could have my entire old bumper for a case of beer :thumb:

sorry, though, that is annoying when the thing you spent so much money on isn't quite the way you wanted it :l
