How many have a second "car"?

Curious how many of you have a daily driver or second car you use for better gas mileage? Less wear on your jeep? Or maybe like me in the summer all doors are off with a spiderweb shade and the hardtop is off until late fall, so if it rains i take my small second car for the day. Some people dont have the funds to do so, or if you dont put on a lot of miles or always keep your top on it might not apply. Comments?

I used to have a VW passat in addition to my jeep but I sold it to my brother as I stopped driving it because the jeep was too fun. Plus it had 150k. Sorry that's the only picture I have. That's after he bought it and his friends did that

Yes - VW CC for a daily driver & Rubicon for weekends & fun.

Big Fran 05-03-2013 07:57 PM

My Jeep is for better gas mileage. My other ride is a Chevy extended cab 2500 4X4. I get 7 MPG in the city with it and 13 on highway.

mike1158 05-03-2013 08:05 PM

my "second" car was actually first. I have a 2004 Chevy Avalanche...176,000 miles....about 15-17 mpg... but its loaded, still rides like a dream and comes in handy for stuff around the house...and ski trips with the guys

im with you i have a 4x4 gmc that gets about 14mpg. so my lifted jeep is my fuel saver. i always here about gm trucks getting 20-22 mpg but ive never had one or drove one.

dwinterb 05-03-2013 08:13 PM

Jeep is for weekends and fun, commute to work on a motorcycle for mileage (55mpg+) and traffic shortcuts. Lane splitting is legal in CA and pretty safe out here in Orange County.

Crushed 05-03-2013 08:13 PM

My second car is my toy. Jeep is also a toy even though its a DD

marslim 05-03-2013 09:02 PM

yea I have an SRT-4.... gets way better fuel mileage and much more fun for long highway drives... plus if i break the SRT at the track i have my jeep to drive and if i break the Jk offroad I have the SRT :-)

wolfanize 05-03-2013 09:06 PM

Yes, Our Jeep....and the second, well can't really call it a CAR...It's a JEEP!

GTJ 05-03-2013 09:18 PM

Our jeep is our third car and weekend driver it is great too if one of the others needs a repair

TOK 05-03-2013 09:23 PM

I have two 4x4 pickups, a Tacoma and a crew cab Titan. The Jeep is the MPG champ, but still mainly filling the weekend/convertible role.

I'm taking a 500 mile road trip in it at the end of this month, curious to see how it goes!

kramer2k 05-03-2013 09:37 PM

My DD is a 2012 Ford Focus. It really helps keep the miles low on my Jeep, which I like to drive on nice days and for beach and offroading trips.

when/if the Stang ever dies, that's what I want for a DD :thumb:

moto-treks 05-03-2013 10:19 PM

Does a KTM 990 count as a second "car"?

dawhitesJKU 05-03-2013 10:38 PM

my graduation gift from my pops back in 2000 and still a looker, hence my jeep is my dd.

moto-treks 05-03-2013 10:43 PM

I'd say the Jeep is the looker ;-)

okie41 05-03-2013 10:52 PM

have 2013 elantra gets 34mpg at 75mph , jeep is for driving around mostly off road

overblown 05-03-2013 11:16 PM

The list in my signature. Just added the Monte Carlo and have been driving the snot out of it! Well, at least I was until it turned into the amazon rain forest around here.

Blastek 05-03-2013 11:24 PM

50 mile commute. I have a '96 200sx that gets 40+mpg. I also live right next to the light rail that goes directly to my office, takes the same amount of time, and costs $2.50. I can't stop driving the damn jeep, though.

iNizo 05-03-2013 11:41 PM

I have VW GTI (+350HP)- APR Stage3+.. My 2nd fun factor.

RoadiJeff 05-03-2013 11:41 PM

Between my wife and I we have 2 cars, a Jeep, a motorcycle and a handful of bicycles. I've taken each of them to work at one time or another, 25 miles each way.

CharlesS 05-03-2013 11:45 PM

The Jeep XJ was my primary vehicle since October '97 until I purchased the '11 JK in December '12. Now my Wrangler is the daily driver and the XJ goes Rock Crawling and used as a DD several times a month.
This picture was taken in Slickrock Campground; Moab, UT last year.

I have a Escalade that I purchased new in 2003 and it still looks like new, 74,000 miles current.
Orange County Choppers built me a Harley custom back in 2009, it's all black with a lot of chrome.
2013 Black Rubicon.
Since I got my Rubicon, my Escalade a Harley Custom have just been collecting a lot of Arizona dust setting in the garage.
Since I am 79 years old, 5ft 6in and only 95 pounds, I think that I am much safer in the Rubicon, verses the Harley. I really get in trouble when my Alheimers acts up!
Some times I don't know if I am coming, or going and it's so easy to get lost. At least my Rubicon has a GPS, but I don't know how to use it................
Besides, since I am broke and everything is being repossessed, well we will just take it one day at a time! VERY SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Orange Krusher 05-04-2013 12:01 AM

My JK is my DD all year around. However, between me and my husband we also own a 2004 Ford thunderbird (his DD in the summer) and a 2007 Toyota 4 runner (his DD in the winter). The 4 runner is our main vehicle for camping, kayaking, etc. In the summer, I may take the 4 runner if my top is off and it is cold and rainy. My jeep is comparable to the 4runner in gas mileage. I drive about an hour to work and back in traffic. My jeep makes that commute tolerable.
18.5-20 with the jeep

Rubi513 05-04-2013 12:03 AM

I actually have more money in my 2nd car. 04 dodge dually with over 600 h.p. It's my daily driver. It gets about 16 m.p.g

Raiderfan001 05-04-2013 12:04 AM

Of all my vehicles (motorcycle excluded, i'm going to sell it anyways) my Jeep gets the best gas mileage. Everything else has Chevy 350s and a Ford 302. All of which get maybe 10mpg on a good day.

OD, I feel so bad for you. Is it possible that it is time for a Nursing Home for you? They are trained in the handling of Alzheimer's and will keep you locked up so you won't get lost anymore.

traitor08 05-04-2013 12:26 AM

My dd is a lifted 87 chevy shortbed with a 355. Gas mileage who cares.
