Night Run Anyone?

I've now taken my jeep out in rain, snow and dry conditions, all in daylight. Was thinking of doing a night time run in the next couple of weeks. Would like to try a trail in the dark. Anyone interested? Thinking Peter's mill run or good ole flagpole. Keep it simple first time.

Jack Burton 05-04-2013 10:07 AM

I'd be interested...dying to get some lights for my windshield and this sounds like the time.

Was talking to Mike (firefox250) and he's interested too.

If Mike comes he has to take the lead. He has a great front light setup. I was thinking we'd hit trail about 7:30PM. Sun sets around 8 PM.

Would this be a Friday night?

Was thinking Saturday, but don't see why Friday wouldn't work. So for dates, maybe the 17th or 18th? Any preferences?

Jack Burton 05-04-2013 11:05 AM

I'm going camping at the Cove the weekend of the 17th-19th. I'm out for that weekend.

11th and 1 May would also work for me.

What would be the plan? Drive up to flagpole and pitch a tent? Or drive home right after?

My thought was Drive up, be done around 9 or 10 PM and drive back. Although camping could be a possibility. I just wanted to get out with the Jeep, at night on the trail, see how it changes the experience, plus I'm sure at either Peter's mill or Flagpole, we'd see some great stars.

I would be interested, but the weekend of 17-19 May is definitely out. My folks will be in town from Florida and I don't get to see them as often as I would like.

Thanks! I really need to reaim my front bumper lights, though. I have not aimed them since removing the bull bar and mounting the lights directly to the stock bumper. I checked them last night and they are WAY off!

danrb 05-05-2013 05:34 PM

So the 18th sounds not good for everyone. Next weekend or 1 June?

Jack Burton 05-05-2013 06:28 PM

I only have stock lights at the moment. I want windshield lights but am still researching options. I wont have lights on in time for this weekend.

If everyone else wants this weekend I`ll just run with my stocks.

Ill sell you my long range kc's, even help install. I've only used them for maybe 30 mins. Plus when I do my snorkle I cant have windshield mounted lights.

If he's not, I'm interested Reap.

I'm down for the 11th, as of now. I'm down for camping as well.

Jack Burton 05-06-2013 06:51 AM

I really want LEDs. Conflict is I dont like square lights at my pillars.

I'm looking at some Engo 4" round LEDs but their site is only listing spots...i have an email to them re: floods. We'll see

I replaced my fogs with dually's. There is a company that sells round led for the window.

d_rehmann 05-06-2013 12:03 PM

QuietSpike 05-06-2013 12:47 PM

So the 11th and 18th are out. The next date for me would be 1 Jun. Everyone good with that?

Looking at installing Rock lights now :-)

Project-jk.com has a great rock light write up.

firefox2501 05-06-2013 07:11 PM

FYI - I know you guys are looking at driving lights, but you should REALLY be looking at flood lights. If you are driving trails that you need auxiliary lighting, then you should not be driving very fast, and a wide close beam (flood, fog) is much more important than a far narrow beam (driving, long range).

For example, PIAA ATP pattern, Hella Cornering pattern, KC Hilites Flood pattern are all more useful than a driving pattern. If you really want driving pattern lights, then have at least 2 pair of lights - one pair aimed close (and slightly to either side) and the other pair aimed a bit further.

just my 2

Two lights only. Was really disappointed with it. There are some other good setups. Like the Vision X rock lights, but I don't need the fancy stuff, just on/off.

Agree. My dually's are floods and the light bar I'm planning on will be floods. Rear lights I'm not sure on yet.

#1 June 1st is Jeep Jam in Harrisonburg. Super family friendly, stuff for the kids to do

#2 I installed rock lights in my TJ. There was already a hole in both fenders (was supposed to be there) that they rock lights I bought fit perfectly in. I paid $5 for 2 LED Eagle Eye rock lights. They are 3w each. Super bright. Since I did it, a lot of my club has ordered the lights and installed as backup lights and rock lights.

Jack Burton 05-07-2013 09:55 AM

I'm in for June first...expect to have some lights by then
