WTF, five pairs of pants and counting

I've owned a jeep for a month. I have ripped the left rear belt loop off five pairs of pants. I thought I was going to be spending money on upgrades, no just repairing f'ing pants!

s14sh3r 05-04-2013 06:24 PM

It gets better. I haven't lost a belt loop in quite a while now.

Gold Miner 05-04-2013 06:29 PM

I've had my TJ for over ten years now.... and it still grabs me by the belt loop once in a while.
Maybe only once a year now though, I've gotten better.
It only eats the belt loop if they're 'new' jeans... TJs feed primarily on fresh jeans.

Crazyjeeper 05-04-2013 06:32 PM

Owned my TJ for two months and 3 pairs for me!

Jerry Bransford 05-04-2013 06:37 PM

You'll get the hang of getting in without hurting anything before too long. My belt loops have been fine for the past 15-16 years now. :)

UnlimitedRubicon 05-04-2013 06:45 PM

I tore three pairs of shorts in the first few months of ownership. I eventually adapted and haven't torn any in the last five years. You shall overcome! :D

TJspeed 05-04-2013 06:49 PM

I've had my jeep for a year and a half now and I've never snagged a belt loop.

Steeljag 05-04-2013 06:55 PM

I just stopped wearing pants!

jimmy_buckle 05-04-2013 07:03 PM

I know this has been talked about in the thread 'you know you drive a TJ when' but where are you actually snagging your belt loops?

B4manek22 05-04-2013 07:12 PM

First time I got out, I hit the latch and got a nice sized bruise. I learned my lesson from then.

I like it! I know no one else will, though.

JReed615 05-04-2013 07:31 PM

I still have yet to do this after a year of ownership. I still don't completely understand how it happens. Maybe my is designed differently? Could someone take a picture of the part in question?

SeVeReDiStOrTiOn 05-04-2013 07:51 PM

I think the loop catches on the door lock striker. I dunno i've never had it happen either but I also don't tuck my shirt in.

I know I've told this story before, but when I bought mine, I was wearing an old pair of cargo shorts that had seen better days. I get in to drive home and snag the beltloop over the left rear pocket and rip pretty much the entire ass out of the shorts. All the way home, I was praying I didn't have to stop for anything

If it's in the way...just remove it! Problem solved, pants saved and let the real mods begin...

coastalwrangler 05-04-2013 09:10 PM

I haven't torn any pants on this thing yet, knock on wood. But I did have to stop using lanyards on my keys. This thing was notorious for grabbing the lanyard on my way out and jerking the keys back inside of the now locked jeep as the door shut.

1jeeplvr 05-04-2013 09:16 PM

Ive never had this happen.

Jeffreybomb 05-04-2013 09:18 PM

That's actually pretty funny, because the joke around my house is that if you're going mountain climbing, I'm the guy you want climbing with you. I could snag a marble on another marble.

Nice to hear I'm not alone. :D

Because who needs door latches anyway? Lol

SteelBlue44 05-04-2013 09:32 PM

Never snagged a belt loop...but definitely a couple hits on the hip bone, which resulted in screaming profanity:banghead:...followed by bruises

The bruises are worse than the belt loops, I've only ripped one belt loop but I have had multiple bruises. bruises hurt like a b****

Ebxgsxr 05-04-2013 11:08 PM

Could be. I'm 6'3" and for me to get my leg in the jeep I'm standing by the rear part of the door. Then I start to fold myself in, I drag my butt along the door frame.

I'm two inches taller than you; I sit inside and then swing both legs in. Looks a little strange, but that's the price we pay for being tall, dark, an handsome! :D

moscoeb 05-05-2013 07:56 AM

I tore a bunch at first, then I started leaning forward while sliding in and it helped a ton.

bostiguy 05-05-2013 08:04 AM

Has only happened to me once. Did you know this is the reason why Bo and Luke used to climb into their car? You can try that method.

That and the fact the door was welded shut.
