Another running 35's question

I am running 35's now with a D30/D35 set up and am looking at regearing down to 4.88 and getting the 4340 27 spline axle shafts in the rear along with a detroit locker in the front. so my question is do you think the D35 will support running 35's for a year or so until i have the money to throw at getting either the 30 spline/locker for the rear or a D44 in a year or so or should I just wait and get the 30 spline now

Depends what you are doing with your jeep. What kind of trails you run?

Easy to medium dry trails, MOAB not to much mud type stuff working toward harder trails

i would wait and get a d44 or super 35 kit. instead of paying a $200+ tow bill.. ild rather use that for some upgrades on my jeep.. i'm not sure what gears you have now but if you have 3.07 3.55 your going to put more wear on your clutch. upgrade to 488s. i just did this. its awesome!!!

Don't waste your money on a d35.

Even a full-case locker with the 30 spline upgrade is not enough. The ring and pinion are too small.

Find a d44.

I'm putting the 4.88s in its just will a super 35 (the 30 spline) support 35s long term or will the 27 spline 4340 support the 35s until I have the money/time to get a d44 in about a year or two

What else is in the dif?

Oem carrier? The shafts will probably be OK, but your spiders are going bye bye.

Full case locker? 27spline stuff will not last if you wheel hard enough to warrant 35"s

SteelBlue44 05-06-2013 06:16 PM

Depends on how hard you wheel it. I went wheeling with a guy yesterday who was running 35" MTRs on a stock D35 and he hit some hard trails without any problems. I was sitting their crossing my fingers with a D35 and 33" tires.
But he also has a 4 banger, so less power being distributed to the wheels.

errollins13 05-06-2013 07:02 PM

not going to lock the 27 spline at all the point of sticking with a 27 spline is to avoid having the cost of a locker that will be useless in a year or two because of getting a dana 44

@SteelBlue:
right now im still beginning on wheeling but I have known I want to be in it for a long time so instead of getting 33's and wanting to get rid of them in a year or so i decided to go with 35's and work around it.
So with light to moderate wheeling a 27 spline should be fine?

climbit 05-06-2013 07:42 PM

I will not say that you will be fine.

You may, but that's not odds I'm willing to take

I have seen several grenades 35s on tires as small as 31". One pulling out of a gas station in the rain.

Having an open carrier will help save your shafts, but your spiders and side gears will pay the price.

And everything was stock and the spiders are what broke not the shafts.i replaced it with a locked d44 and moved to 35s

how hard were you wheeling when that happened?

It was a tougher spot, but I was always very aware of the bomb I had n the back and was always easy on the skinny pedal, and didn't hop it. And it wasn't a good feeling when it happened, since I was 2 miles up a fairly rough trail, and then on top of that was 2 hrs from home, that was a long night going to get the trailer and back to pick it up all n the same night.
