Bestop Sunrider Soft Top

Ok, so I have been looking through the threads here and haven't really found anything that answers my question. Please don't blast me if it's somewhere in here and I couldn't find it! I did do the search, but turned up references, but nothing that goes into detail.

The question that I have is does anyone have any experience with this top: Bestop ? It's the Bestop Sunrider. I am really looking into it because I like the idea of having a "sunroof" on my 99 TJ. I was trying to find the specs for it but couldn't really find much on it as far as material. Is it sail cloth or something else?

Like I said, I am very interested in this product, but don't know much about it. Anyone out there have any tidbits of info for me? Thanks!! :wavey:

The Bestop Sunrider is based on Bestop's Supertop (classic) frame which is not very good a nd a PITA to used.

You are better off getting the Supertop NX which is a full top with a factory style frame and opens in front.

(Note, are you actially in need of a new top? It is possible to modify a stock top to open. There is a kit on ebay. I can't comment on the eby kit, I made my own modification.)

Unfortunately I think I am in need of a new top as the zippers are missing teeth, there are places where the threads have ripped apart, as well as a few places where the plastic part that hooks into the frame are broken, and (maybe this is normal, but IDK as this is my first jeep that had a top at all) when it rains I get some soaking through the top. If I could replace the plastic bits that latch to the jeep, I would just get new windows. The current ones I have are scratched and the rear has a nice hole in it where the PO installed some speakers and the window smacked into them enough that it just broke.

I will definitely look into the Supertop NX, though. I just feel that by reading all the threads on here that sail cloth is probably the best way to go as far as noise and durability.

Thanks for the info, I will stay away from the Sunrider then!

I bought a Supertop NX back in October and I like it a lot. The front flip back part is pretty awesome for the days you cant take it all the way back. I don't know much about the Sunrider top but I would definitely recommend the Supertop NX!!!

Bielzebub,

The Supertop NX a great top if you're looking for something with factory styling and the Sunrider Feature. It comes with all the parts required to put it on the Jeep and will replace all your hardware now. So, if you have anyhting that's broken or worn out, this will also fix that.

Another option if you're looking for a top with unique styling is the Trektop NX. It has an awesome look to it and it also has the Sunrider feature you're looking for. You can also run this top as a Safari Bikini top with the windows removed.

Hope this helps! We have both tops ready to ship out next business day. If you have any questions or want to place an order, feel free to PM me. I'll be happy to help out!

Honestly I love the look of the Trektop, but my wife doesn't like how it's frameless in the back, even though it does look really cool! I will have to see if I can't persuade her a little more... Thanks for the info, I really like those!

I'm not sure about this but I don't think the Trek Top NX folds back like the Supertop NX.
I believe it has to be removed completely to go topless. I think I read something like that on an old post on here.

The "fold back" we are speaking of is the front part over the driver/passenger (also referred to as sunrider) and not the entire top.

To go topless, yes you'll have to remove the entire top assembly. Which sounds like a lot, but it really takes the same amount of time as a standard top once you've done it a time or two. You just can't fold it behind the rear seat like a factory top.

It does however have the Sunrider feature we're talking about. The front portion of the top over the driver and passenger will flip back simply by clipping the header channel at the windshield.
