Extended or other warranty?

Hi guys,

Well, the time is rapidly approaching that my new Rubicon is set to arrive and I'm starting to think about things like warranties and such.

Are there any warranties or other things that the dealer tries to get you to buy when you're signing papers that are really worth it?

I'm interested in experiences and facts. Cost of the warranty vs. repair costs - that type of thing. In my past experiences, extended warranties really don't cover much and when compared to their cost vs. the cost of the repair, the savings really weren't all that much.

I'm not afraid to turn my own wrenches, but I do plan to have the dealer do all maintenance work. If they have a maintenance plan, I'd consider that. Otherwise, I'm just not sure what they'll throw at me.

Thanks in advance for your useful input.

They will try to get you to buy one at closing but you can generally gt a better deal if you shop around.

For instance, the dealer wanted around $3,100 for the Lifetime Maximum Care warranty with a $100 ded. You can get the same thing at chryslerwarrantys.com for less than $2,300. When you fill out the form for an online quote they email you a discount code that is good for an additional amount off. The cost to me with the discount on my 2013 Sahara was around $2,270.

Take the printout with you when you close and see if the dealer will match it. When they try to tell you that the other one is a third party warranty, not backed by Chrysler, tell them they are wrong. It is.

Thanks, I'll shop around and see what is out there.

Am I to understand that you can add that coverage at any time?

The way I'm looking at it is - if there aren't issues with the Jeep in the first 12 or 24 months, then why spend the extra cash for a warranty I probably wouldn't use? Otherwise, the factory warranty should suffice.

I believe so, although the price may go up after the first 12 months of ownership. You can go to that website I posted and experiment with different numbers when it asks how long you've owned it, how many miles, etc., and see if the price increases.

The price does change a little, but not significantly.
