Hey, just trying to get some opinions. I have a 89 yj with 6 inches if lift( 4inch rough country, 2 inch lift shackles). I decided to remove track bars. First test drive the sway bar was disconnected too; definitely sluggish. I bolted end links and it improved but still not quite happy with the handling. The end links are only for a 4inch lift so first question is if they were proper length for 6 inch lift would it improve handling much? Second question, are the giant shackles part of the problem too? Of course I know is my bad steering shaft is not helping either. Any information is appreciated...thank you!

I don't think the end links will make a difference, but those huge shackles will really make steering bad.

Yea that what I thought. I wanted to get rid of them but what you think is better way to do that? Add a leafs? Soa? Not really sure.

Your caster is probably way off. You should get an alignment and see how far tilted back your caster is, then get caster shims to tilt your steering knuckles back upward. You may also need longer pins for your leaf springs depending on how many degrees your shims need to be to fix the caster.
I just did this to my jeep and my shackles are extended, but not as long as yours sound to be. I needed 2 degrees and steers like a champ now with no track bars and sway bar disconnects.

If you want to get rid of them, you could go the same route I did. I have 1" shackles and a 1" body lift. Works great and you won't have to mess with shims or anything. Smaller shackles help with bump steer too.

Thanks for all the info...I was planning on redoing my body mounts with the 1" poly so maybe I will just do that. But ya, I'm over my giant shackles. At the time is was cheapest way to add 2 inches to run my 34 ltbs on the trails. Still managed to rip one flare off though ha. I just have to see what the funds will allow.

Well I fixed my track bar problem. Since I have giant shackles and they are not going any where any time soon due to lack of fund, I made a telescoping track bar from my existing one. Cost me about $3 which was for new hardware. Actually works really well.
