Tailgate question??

I removed my spare tire and the factory carrier from the tailgate if my 01 tj and now there is a huge square hole in there that was behind the carrier, my ? Is,, is there suppose to be some kinda louvre or it ?? What can I do to cover it, I don't want to put the carrier back on. Thanks

Yes, there is a plastic vent that goes in there.

Poison spyder makes a cover.

It should look like this:

I took that picture to show my 3rd (and 4th) brake light mod. In KY a third brake light isn't necessary, I just added them for the safety aspect. More lights means drunks and idiots are more likely to see that you're stopping. You might want to check the law in your state so you don't meet officer friendly. If your state requires a 3rd brake light, my setup would most likely not satisfy the law for you, as it should be above the taillights and center mounted.

Wow, interesting, thanks for letting me know that! I bought it from the original owner and he said there was never one there, kinda wonder if it was left out or maybe it popped off. I will have to order one now that cover looks a lot better than having a big gaping hole in the tailgate! Thanks again for the info..

Well just looked for a few minutes for the cover, I have no idea what I am looking for, lol. Can anyone tell me what the cover is called and where I can find one thanks again

I don't know if it is sold as a separate item or not, but it is the vent for the tailgate which started in 03 when they removed the vents from the rear corners of the hardtop.

None of my usual parts sites seemed to have them. I did find a vent guard for a JK, but I can't imagine a scenario where a steel guard for it would be useful. If you actually hit that vent with something, you've got bigger problems.

I did find new and used ones on ebay, but they were roughly the same price. Here's a new one I found from a top rated seller:

For whatever reason, the link isn't working, so just copy and paste this, but add the www to it:

I think these look much better than the stock vent. Who needs a vent anyways?? Jeeps leak like a sieve.

Maybe with a soft top. When my hard top is on and the windows are rolled up, the doors get harder to close due to pressure build up in the cab. When I run the heater you can feel warm air coming out of the vents in the top (I have an '02)
