Sway bar link replacement
 
Hey all,

Time to replace my sway bar links up front, the bushings are shot but nothing is broken. Did some research and it seems pretty straight-forward. Just might need to rent a couple tools but other than that i'm good. Any of you done this and do you have any tips or brands i should look at? Thanks in advance.

Sway bar links shouldn't require more than a box wrench and a socket.

Are you replacing the stock ones or extended ones?

Everything is stock and i believe original ('98). Was checking out this how-to and it kind of makes that i would need at least a ball joint splitter.

But if you think i wouldn't need it that would save a bit of money. I just dont have a garage or a lot of tools at the moment.

Well I have a 1998 and some left over stock links after I did my lift that I could ship to you if you'd like. I won't be home till this weekend once my finals are over but if you want I can send you a pic of them Thursday afternoon or Friday morning so you can see them.

I just put in new links on saturday. A wrench, hammer, and maybe a torch is all you need.

Unbolt old links,knock out with a hammer, bolt in new links. Mine were rusted in pretty good, I used a torch to heat them up and whacked them with a hammer and they fell right out.

If you have done research, you have seen that seperating the tapered top can require some effort and there are various methods. I used (rented) a pickle fork and with a length of pipe was able to seperate them. Torch and or hammer others will use. It does not cost any money to rent. You get the down payment back when you return the tool(s)

Don't buy replacement stock type ball/socket links. They are weak and can seperate on a stock Jeep. For a little more money, solid links (Zone) will last longer.

Hey all,

Got a little extra cash so I'm going to do this. The Zone solid links were recommended (ZONJ5300) thanks Niel F. I contacted Zone to ask if all the necessary hardware came with and they said they're meant to use the existing bolts. Does this sound kosher? Thanks in advance.

My Zone links only reused the original axle side bolt. I went to the dealer and got new bolts and nuts.
