Off Camber Shots Please

This has become an obsession with my Jeep trying to understand how much off camber a Jeep can go before it rolls. I now have felt several times that I was gonna roll my Jeep and was told I was nowhere close. The picture below was taken during a class where the instructor was showing us how much off camber. This picture was the guy in front of me. I didn't get any pictures while I was in the position because I was too white knuckled while he pushed back and forth showing how stable the Jeep is. I am amazed at my Jeeps stability in off camber positions and was hoping to see who has the most off camber shot here.

It's not always the angle that makes a vehicle roll. But the speed and or maneuvering while at that angle that makes it roll. Usually a bump or jerk is what cause a vehicle to go over. Once in that red zone.

Exactly, sometimes if your coming down off-camber and are facing an OH S@#T moment and turn the wheel the other way it will flip also.

that would have been beat if that dude was pushing back and forth on someone's Jeep and it did roll

this one freaked me out the first time on the trail. Cant really tell unless you look at the trees and the CJ in front of me

There is a lot you have to know before knowing how much more you can push your jeep in any given spot and sadly I dont have a clue how to even start to explane in. It is just one of those things that comes with seat time.

I am the guy who takes a lot of picks of everone else so I have lots of shots of other jeeps but very few of mine.

This one has just a little lean to it but looks worse then it was. And yes the camera is lvl, I am picky about making sure I hold lvl when shooting jeeps and such

oh i like this thread. being new at this i really felt like i was going to roll the other day even though i was probably no where close. but in the cab, when you aren't used it, it feels like you are.

Saw this guy on the trail. He made about 10 very slow and controlled approaches almost to the limit but always slid, lost traction, or almost rolled. He was like right up to the limit, confident, poised and relaxed. In this case he did not go over the limit.

But.....note the Jeep has been rolled before. We asked about this, and he said, "Yes, earlier today". Then I noticed there is no glass in the windshield.

As a side note, they decided to do some quick welding to repair the right front shock tower to get home. Rather than jack it up, they had the solution to getting the tire off the ground in pic two done in about 3 minutes from the comment "let's weld".

These guys were very heavy hitters with seemingly no fear, unlimited experience, and the ability to make every tool on earth suddenly appear. They are conformable testing the limit. I left with good advice for me and you.....Stay below our camber limits and not push our luck too far looking for that limit....lol....I would need a lot more guts, a bigger wallet and plenty of luck to run with these dudes......

And in snow too. I did a lot of off camber positions in snow and that is really nerve racking. Your off camber and your rear end slides into the ditch and all you can do is pray the movement stops.

The worst feeling I've had in my jeep going down a very short steep hill into a pit. When the rear end transitioned, I could feel a rotation start as it came off the springs. I was certain I was going over then, but no, my Jeep handled it with grace. Gotta love a Vehicle that makes you look like a pro, just by hanging on. :rofl:

X2 Experience will help you picking the right line and develop a gut instinct of when your too close to the edge. Along the way you need to surround yourself with some veterans that help guide you along. I have been fortunate enough to hit some nasty trails with some really experienced guys.

Another thing that I have learned was that photos and videos never due any of this justice. What looks like a small hill in a photo in reality turns out to be a 40+ degree butt-puckering incline.

I usually try to level off if my butt in the driver seat is higher than the top of the passenger window. It still doesn't tip but I'm not comfortable doing much more than that.

That's a very good rule of thumb to use, what size lift & tires are you running to measure camber that way?

When I was driving this, it felt like I was going to roll over, but in actuality, It was pretty stable. It let me know the importance of securing items inside as everything that was loose fell over to the passenger side.

Rausch creek. Took both the 101 and 201 class. 201 we were off camber a good portion off the day. I asked Kyle, the instructor, how far we could go so he showed us.

Awesome Dan, thanks. Two buddies and I are trying to pick a weekend to head up there for the 101 class. I thought maybe there was another option I wasn't aware of. I'm just a little scared about getting my brand-new rig all scratched up. How did you do?

The 101 is well worth the coin. Just the usually pinstriping from going off road, no other damage. The 201, I hit a lot of rocks and tree stumps. Peeled my rear diff back enough to start a leak. The 201 was off camber driving a good part of the day, the snow added a lot of challenges too.

We've started a thread in the Virginia section, where we're trying to organize a trip up there on the 18th.

This is the "V notch" in Tillamook State Forest.

When Jeeps pass, you can see the tops of their rigs from the trail.
