No one else out there with a nice setup? I ordered a set of Focal 165KF's today along with an XD600/1 amp. Already have a JL 12w6v2 subwoofer.

Between .45 and .5 cu ft each. I could have gone a little bigger volume if I needed to.

Well, got all my gear ordered.

Going with the following gear with amps under the rear seats of the JKU:

XD 600/1
XD 200/2
JL 12w6v2 Sub in custom box
Focal 165KF Components up front
remove sport bar speakers
Replace 430N RHB with Kenwood DNX9990HD

Sub box will be custom made to take up little space and be removable when I need that space.

What are you running for your head unit?

Jma20a 05-14-2013 03:48 PM

this is my 12" death penalty from Incriminator Audio, its a 1500 watt rms 2 ohm duel coil sub. i built the enclosure my self out of 3/4" mdf, slot ported and tuned to 32Hz and is 3.1 ci^ft. i run it with a 1500 watt rms amp from MB Quart. power, ground, and big three all with 0/1 gauge wire all from Knu Konceptz.

Is that a Rockford? I just ordered the same one for my sub as I wanted something small in size.

How do you like it?

Yes Kenwood PBR series. I can't find anything wrong with it. Sounds clean and powerful. 4 channel teasted out at 85wpc, the two mono amps tested over 315watts each. Not sure I will ever find a need to buy something bigger in size in the future. Especially considering the cost.

thanks for the info. I see you're planning to do a write-up. Any advice on the mounting you did for the Rockfords would be appreciated.

Mine is arriving Friday so I need to figure out how I'm going to mount the dang thang. LOL

Question. I saw i guy put his kickers/ sub under rear seat. How much room would be in the seat to put in the kickers/ sub? Also coul i even fit then in the seat or under it (with the box)? And finally would i need to remove anything important in the seat?
Thnx

Decided not to go with the JL Stealth Box. It is not a plug and play deal due to changes with how the premium subwoofer is installed on the alpine systems in the 2012-13 JKU. You have to buy two new panels once the stock subwoofer is removed. Also the mounting kit that comes with the stealth box no longer work perfectly. I've opted to have a box made with the subwoofer firing down so that the sub and box look like a storage bin/shelf sitting in the trunk area. It won't cover the rear trunk storage bin and should look stealthy and not attract the wrong kind of attention. I'll post pics when complete.

Where is factory amp on 2012 2dr jk?

Barmanvarn 05-17-2013 12:40 PM

I believe under the steering column. Up under the dash.

mikeburr 05-17-2013 02:35 PM

Thanks

Drivers side closest to the door up under the dash. It's mounded to a metal plate. If I remember, you'll have to take off the lower dash to reach the single screw that holds it in place (or maybe there's two screws).

How big is that stock amp?

Not very. Something like 6"x8"x2".

If you dont mind can you provide some details and pics? Maybe even budget details? I am looking to put a system in soon for a '13 JKU

10Anvil 05-18-2013 11:21 PM

The only thing you can see that looks different than stock is the new 'shelf' in the trunk/rear. The amps are under the driver and passenger seat, sitting off the floorboards by 1 inch to avoid possible water. The Focal components are in stock location, can't tell anything is different. Deck is a Kenwood DNX9990, lots of equalization and crossover controls. My sub is a 12w6v2 in that box firing down (reason for slit at bottom) and it hits HARD!

Seats still fold down and that box can be removed easily with a quick disconnect if I need the space. I'm going to remove the stock sub box once I get the replacement panels. Actually looking to swap my stock sub box panel w/sub for someones stock panels.

I now have the stock speakers, amp, and sub w/ panel available. $200 plus shipping or $100 plus shipping if I get your rear passenger paneling for the trunk.

I'll get more pictures in the morning of the amp location and deck.

Looks good! :thumb:

I thinking putting a factory sub box in my JK may be the approach I need to take. As I'm limited on space using the factory box would keep me from having to deal with an aftermarket box being in my way.

Couple more pictures, as I said, nothing unusual or an eye sore. Sub box is actually pretty stealthy, especially with the stock box still in there. Plenty of bass with top down.

That looks really really good. I might need to steal your set up. About how much should I budget for it?

10Anvil 05-19-2013 08:24 PM

If you are willing to risk new/used items you could budget about 2K fully installed.

I'm going to be adding a remote bass knob to control the mono amp gain because I listen to a lot of different types of music. You can't just set the amps and xovers and expect every genre to sound right. There are actually pretty significant differences between genre's and even albums depending on how they were recorded at the studio. You will also notice that sirius sounds like crap (low bitrate): same is true of playing itunes music via aux etc...

I would also suggest going to a shop and listening to the components you are thinking to buy (feel free to buy used or somewhere else - yeah I'm an ass).

Different component sets can sounds completely different on the same music. Especially tweeters. You need to find out if you like 'harsh' tweeters or 'soft' tweeters.

Aluminum dome tend to be harsher but work best with rock/metal music. I prefer softer tweeters and the component set I have play the highs a little too sharp for me. Going to try to adjust that with the xover points and lower gain on tweets.

After the install you have to spend a few hours getting the sound dialed in. Once I picked up my car it sounded like complete ass because most stereo installers won't touch gains etc... because they don't know what you like.

I also need to add some polyfill to the dash speakers, the way the dash is designed they are basically playing 'free air' right now and I'm losing some midbass.

For the sport bar I would only add some midbass, I don't think they need tweets up there.

@Mattk11:

Posting here in case anyone else is interested (will PM if you don't see this).

Got my PBR series mounted under the stearing column and went for a drive this evening. I was probably driving around for about an hour, all the while I had the radio cranked up pretty high.

I got home and reached up under the dash to check the temp on the amp.....damn thing was so hot it would have burned me had I left me had on it. I know amp has a built in temperature protection and it never cut out on me so I have to assume it wasn't having any issues.

I wanted to check w/ you and see if you've found your PBR series amp(s) running hot.

thanks
