At least for monsta liner, you sand until the shine is gone. Basically taking the clear coat off. Make sure you get all the nooks and crannies as well. Clean out the dust and wipe down with MEK and you should be able to see if any shiny spots are still there. I had white paint and was very difficult to see, but with black it should be easier. You are going to love having the tub lined. Remember, prep is 99% of the job.

Ok thanks guys, the raptor liner instructions are VAGUE as can be! I mean they don't even tell you how to clean the gun between coats. Yes black is a lot easier to tell about the shine like u said its pretty white, it's quite the challenge to get in all those books and crannies though. I have another day or 2 to go then I can install the liner. Thanks again guys!

I too have a black jeep and I just used some of the green scratch pads and took it down until the gloss was gone. It was just a dull white haze. Then I wiped it down twice with denatured alcohol until the rags I was using were clean. And in between coats put some acetone in a cup and spray it through your gun until it comes out clean. Good luck and remember no matter how good it looks when your done it won't last unless you did a good prep job and have it nice clean and dry!

Make sure to post some pictures of the process or results! I'm going to be using raptor Liner within the next few weeks! Good luck!
