Stalled on Spider Hill at Frank Raines CA.....

4-wheel low in 2nd gear, get a good amount of speed and start the probably 80 degree incline. It's been super dry so it's all loose gravel. Get about halfway up and lose traction. F*#K! This is bad. The trail up is too narrow to turn around and the drop off on either side is about 500 - 650 feet depending on which side you tumble down. While not an experienced wheeler, I've run my fair share of trails. Frank Raines has some elevation though. Plus, I've got issues with heights.

Completely ruined my day out there. Bailed early on some other buddies that were out wheeling. I felt bad but I just couldn't shake the bad feeling I had after almost tumbling down the mountain.

(Stock YJ suspension on 31" tires)

Haven't been that scared in awhile guys.

Just remember to be safe on the trails, I know a lot of folks don't talk about that aspect.

Forgot to mention that I was sliding backwards in 4WL with the sheer drops close to either side. Pucker factor of about 8. Reminded me to remember what my vehicle is capable of and what my driving skills were prepared for.

Dumb question but on your way down were you in reverse and using the engine to help you and only using the brakes a little? If not then I can see why you got scared.
Without using the engine to help you down the hill you can and will slide all over the place.

Yah, I used the engine. I knew better than to use the brakes while going backwards.

Did your shorts get thrown out when you got home? LOL Glad you are safe and I bet you don't forget that when out wheeling again. I, tend to learn lessons like that myself sometimes, but never forget them.
