I want bigger tires to fill my wheel well

I don't know the least thing about tires. I have read this blog, and still can't figure out the answer to my question. I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport with 16" rims - I would like to fill out the wheel well with large tires for taking this Jeep off the street.

Do I need larger wheels? Do I have to modify the vehicle from the stock set up to accomodate larger tires? If not, what is the largest dimension tire that will fit on my stock issued wheels?

Thanks for helping.

I've seen people wheel with stock 16 steelies. Just check em out on YouTube. Bigger tires will help out a lot for offroading. A leveling kit paired up to bigger tires will suffice.

It will all depend on ur budget, goals (mpg, drivability, what kjnd or roads, etc)

At the end of the day, a stock jk is very capable of taking u from point a to point b the hard way.

33s can fit ur stock steelies...I'm not sure if it will rub the links though without spacers (I had stock steelies and don't even know their dimensions). A correct backspaced wheel will fit without any issues.

The tires** that came from the dealership are 225/75/R16. They are too small for my preference

I couldn't wait to get new wheels once I purchased my 2012 sport. It took me about 6 months to decide on what wheels/tires to go with. Endless possibilities.

You can go with 285/75/16.

I am not necessarily looking for new wheels. I am wondering if the current wheels I have are capable of housing the bigger offroad tires that I want. I want to know what would look good and do well offroad.

I've got 235's on my TJ right now. The only time I've ever gotten stuck with them is when I had the jeep in mud to the doors.
