Tuffy Tailgate Enclosure and Subwoofer?

I was wondering if anyone has run a subwoofer inside the Tuffy tailgate enclosure. Any issues w/ rattling from the bass?

I have the full enclosure and at first I had a little buzzing. I tightened the bolts and screws and padded a couple of spots where the enclosure side piece was touching the woofer case and now it's great.

Thanks for the feedback. I had the full enclosure at one time but that was before I had the sub. Got rid of the enclosure for various reasons. Am thinking of the smaller enclosure now that I have the sub.

Have full Tuffy enclosure and Polk sub in stock enclosure with its own rather powerful amp...no rattling, buzzing or any other problems.

Good to hear. I've got a Polk 10" that's about to get a new 300 watty to push it. :)

Tuffy security in a JK with an 8" sub/box. I used Closed Cellular Foam (CCF) on the overlap of the Tuffy pieces where they bolt together. I had rattling but that cured it completely.

do you find that the enclosure muffles the sub any?

Not really...

It probably helps the sub with the top off....almost acting like a bigger enclosure.

Groovy. Just ordered it. :thumb:

I have the Tuffy enclosure and a Kicker HS8 Hideaway sub, in it. No real rattling. My Jeep makes enough noise, with the soft top, rear tire carrier, HiLift Jack and other things rattling, that a little more rattling will be hard to notice.

Ok. For you guys with the rear gate enclosure, how on earth did you get the lid on? I can't get it to squeeze between the rollbar trim.

Enclosure installed. Works great except one bolt has bad threads so wing knob won't screw on tight. Easier to just buy another set.

And need to get a diff sub box as mine is almost too tall to fit.

It is. Has a back cover

Got my enclosure installed. And while I like it, I have to say that it does indeed muffle the sub somewhat.

Gonna play with the gain when I have time and see if that solves it. Also am replacing my 150W amp with a 300w as I needed an amp with smaller dimensions.

If that doesn't work, I may drill a "speaker grill" into the front face to let some sound escape. It'll still be secure so no biggie if it comes to that.

Tailgate Sub with Instatrunk

Well this answered my question too! I will more than likely go with a tailgate mounted sub later on since I plan to buy the instatrunk here shortly. I was afraid the sound wouldn't be good closed up like that and I have been frantically searching for a safe place and a small sub that would still sound good. Thanks a lot!! :happyyes:
