love my jeep (97 tj 2.5L AX5 trans) its my daily driver but it is going to need some work. help me decide what to do (fix or go newer) Im ok with some basic repairs but not ready to tackle the major stuff. My cousin who knows more than me is willing to walk me through things as best he can (cant help injured long story lol) When i shut her down i have coolant bubbling back into the overflow (assuming this is a head gasket going?) have a bad oil leak i cant find (will have to drop pan and figure it out seems like its coming from between the pan and the bell housing (suggestions) and my power steering box it leaking like crazy (been running almost pure lucas power steering stop leak its gotta go) plus tons of small patch work to take care of body rust and an exhaust leak (muffler is toast and i bolt is broken in the hole coming off the manifold) any suggestions
looking for general info, hints tips anything, ideas on cost, how hard it will be, how long it should take ect ect

If your going to need someone walk you thru everything it may be to much of a project to tackle. Now I am not saying don't do it but there is a lot to do for someone that doesn't know exactly what they are doing. If you have rust problems with the body, how is the frame? I see your in Ontario so I will guess a 97 with body rust probably has frame rust. I would look for a jeep with the 4.0 myself.

1. you need a new cap on the radiator. 18 LB is what you need.
2. sounds like the rear main is leaking.
3. new steering box from autozone is under 150 and I have done 3 of them now and I can do it under 1 hour.

really a rad cap? that would be awesome. My frame has some surface rust but somehow it looks not to bad. wouldn't plan on it doing another 16 years but it still has lots of life. anyone got any info on how/what to expect doing rear main and steering box?
Before you jump into the rear main, have you checked the bolts on the valve cover? My nephew had an oil leak that looked like it was the rear main but it was just his valve cover leaking down the back. Tighten all the bolts on the cover and clean all the oil off the drive and recheck. Good to hear frame rust is not bad. You may want to clean that surface rust and spray your frame.
